The Cookies’ Board

May 12th, 2008 @ 12:01 pm by Mrs. Cookie

I have a list of daily bride blogs that I read every morning, Weddingbee being one of them, for wedding inspiration. Like Ms. Cherry Pie in her post about her inspiration board, I discovered inspiration boards via Snippet and Ink and Style Me Pretty (Abby, the writer of the blog, was kind enough to publish my inspiration board). I am a very visual person, and I think inspiration boards are a great way to communicate your wedding style/dream through images. Also, I have given my inspiration board to many of my vendors, and in the words of my florist, “It really helps bring the feel of the wedding to life.”

Sources: (from left to right) Row 1. Ten Mile Station, Boutonnieres, Bouquet, Lovin Sullivan Cakes, Row 2. Casablanca Bridal, Signs, My Photo, Tablescapes, Row 3. Ann Taylor Chloe Dress, Row 4. Damask Fabric, Shoes, Mr. Cookie and I, Invitation

Here’s my inspiration board! I have so many wedding images I have collected from the web that I could make a dozen boards, but I had to narrow them down. So, when constructing the board I took into consideration three things: 1. Color 2. Location 3. Theme.

I chose teal and brown as my main colors; however, I want to incorporate red and orange through the flowers — not only to complement the fall foliage that will be coloring the landscape during our September wedding, but because red is Mr. Cookie’s favorite color.

Since we are getting married in Breckenridge, the Rocky Mountains will be the backdrop for our wedding. Therefore, I wanted the mountains to be a part my inspiration board. The mountains hold a very special place in both Mr. Cookie’s and my heart, but we live in urban Denver. So, I wanted to combine the natural beauty with urban elegance. I am going to use teal and brown damask fabric - I don’t know how I am going to incorporate it into the wedding - but I hope it will help to balance the rustic and urban elements.

When Mr. Cookie and I were in the throws of our long distance relationship, we used to mail each other mix CDs. On one of the CDs Mr. Cookie sent to me, he put “Songbird” by Eva Cassidy. I would listen to the song everyday while riding the Metro to work and think of him. So, we decided to make it our first dance. But I decided to carry the theme even further by incorporating bird silhouettes into the cake and invitations.

Did you do an inspiration board? If so, please post a link to your board with a brief explanation of it.

beautiful board!

We love “songbird” too. I gave him a mix cd with this song on it as well before we got engaged (we’re LD right now too).

We’re also considering the song as a solo during our ceremony. We would have our violaist play the instrumental……hopefully we’ll finalize that this week or two.

Those are my colors too! Also - those are the exact shoes I’ve been looking for. The source link for them is broken - what brand of shoes are they?

Our colors are going to be varying shades of pink, chocolate brown and a some splashes of green. I want the theme to be romantic, fun and summery, as our wedding will be next August.

We just booked our venue this weekend and will be getting married on the roof of a historic landmark in my hometown with a water and mountain view!

@Camilla: I found them off of The Knot from a Denver wedding. The bride bought them from Shoegasm in New York City. Unfortunately, I haven’t been able to find those exact same shoes.
@Jenni: Your board is awsome!

Abby was sweet enough to post my inspiration board as well!

We’re getting married at an Irish restaurant with butter cream and burnt orange walls, dark wood floors and chairs, and traditional décor (top left). We knew from the start that we wanted a French croquembouch in lieu of a cake (top right, from Pix Patisserie), and that we would use dahlias. So I went with a color pallet of antique pinks, golds, and browns. The overall feel/look of the wedding will be pretty traditional, but we’re bringing in some non-conventional items to make it a little more contemporary.

Naturally, details have shifted over time. But overall the inspiration board is a good representation of our wedding. Creating the board has been a big help with planning. I was able to see how the items l liked work together and communicate my ideas to my long-distance mother and MOH, vendors, and my fiancé! I designed invitations with a caramel pattern and chocolate text on an ivory, linen cardstock, a la center left. My MOH selected a brown dress from Ann Taylor, similar to the Jim Hjelm dress bottom left. My mom took it with her while shopping for her MOB dress, and I’ll be taking it to the flower shop when I pick up my flowers. I would strongly recommend any bride doing it. In fact, it was so helpful that I made up an inspiration board for rooms in our house, so that we can refer to them as we decorate!

Here’s my board! http://s302.photobucket.com/albums/nn98/happy-friday/?action=view&current=sc-board.jpg

The photo of the chapel is where we are getting married - I fell in love with the photo that I accidentally found on the Knot, not knowing the chapel was even in my state! I really wanted bright, bold colors so our color scheme is going to be apple red with hints of tangerine and lime.

The swirls are actually a snippet from our invitations that I’ve slowly been designing, the fleur de lys is the symbol for my hometown so we’re hoping to incorporate it throughout since most of our guests are from out of town and have never been to my city.

Our board is in my knottie bio. I’m linking it:

The monogrammed sandals on the board are the shoes I ordered for my reception shoes (or whenever my feet get tired). I ordered them in navy with white, and I’m so excited to get them in the mail. I really hope my wedding feels the way the inspiration board looks b/c I love it! It’s just really “us”.
