About candycorn

I’m pretty darn excited because I just purchased my wedding band, after months and months of browsing and looking for something organic, yet timeless.

The ring I chose is from Beth Cyr Jewelry on Etsy and made of wax with single dandelion fluffs carefully pressed into the band, which I thought seemed really romantic in an unexpected way. Cast in sterling silver and 4mm wide, the ring has a slight patina that has been added to bring out the subtle textures. Plus it’s insanely affordable ($115) and makes me smile just thinking about wearing it, which deems it a winner in my book! I received my order within a week and couldn’t believe the speedy and amazing customer service from Beth. Etsy is my absolute favorite place for offbeat wedding finds.

For Mr. Candy Corn, he wanted something more on the traditional side. His only request was for his band to have a bit of rose gold (that’s right ladies, I’m marrying a man who isn’t afraid to wear a little pink). So, we headed down to Fred Straub, where I had a gift card burning a hole in my pocket from my holiday bonus (since I work for a magazine, some of our clients give us gift cards as trade for advertisements, thus the bling card in my pocket). Mr. CC picked out the ring within a matter of seconds, which seemed almost a little too easy, but I wasn’t about to complain! Thanks to my generous holiday bonus, Josh’s $1,000+ wedding band ended up only costing us $33.50. Thriftiest wedding band purchases evah!

Since we’re on the topic of rings, I figured I’d share the story of my engagement ring(s) with you guys. Mr. Candy Corn originally proposed with an emerald engagement ring (below) since it’s my birthstone and I told him in the past that I wasn’t really a “diamonds kinda girl (if there is such a thing).” On Thanksgiving in 2006, Mr. CC’s mom passed down his great grandmother’s engagement ring to give to me, which made me totally rethink not being a “diamonds kinda girl!”

It means the world to me that they’ve given me this family heirloom, and it has the vintage flair that I absolutely adore. Once we become a Mr. and Mrs, I’ll be wearing my wedding band on my left hand, with the engagement ring on my right hand, since the shape of my engagement ring is so unique and my band wouldn’t fit with it very well. The original engagement ring means a lot to me too, but unfortunately I’m running out of fingers, so it’ll have to go in a safe place where I can cherish it forever.

Here is a silly, hairy knuckled before & after shot (which consequently reminds me of those celebrity before & after nose jobs shots, so I apologize if anyone else is reminded of Ashlee Simpson nose jobs):

Has anyone else received an unexpected family heirloom during their engagement? I’d love to hear your stories of how you decided on your wedding bands, or for those of you who haven’t yet, which styles you are considering!

I have an heirloom ring and it actually looks highly similar to yours. I would recommend getting it cleaned b/c mine was horribly dirty :)

It will serve as my “something old”

Just this weekend I received anunexpected and very meaningful gift. FI’s birth mother died when he was very little but the family kept some of her jewelry. Yesterday, FI’s step-mother gave me birth-mother’s beautiful, antique diamond wedding band to wear on the wedding day and after. It is gorgeous and I feel honored to have received it. Much more fancy than what I had expected to wear! FI never knew the band existed so it was special for him to see as well.

hi there! gorgeous rings! i love the dandelion look. im looking for something similarly nature themed. the texture is really pretty. my sister is going to make our rings for us, so i can choose any design and its hard! rose gold is gorgeous, but i had jewelers tell me its very soft and can wear out. also, sterling silver is very soft and over time may wear down your design (over a LOT of time). i would consider having a mold made of your dandelion band and just keep it on hand if you ever want to have it cast in something stronger. (jewelrs know how to have this done)

I’m wearing my FI’s grandmother’s wedding and engagement bands. They needed a lot of work–you might want to bring yours to a jewelers to see how everything has held up over time. These antiques sometimes need help to last overtime. But I love my rings. They came from a wonderful marriage, and although they aren’t worth very much, it’s the sentiment that counts. I love the vintage look and wouldn’t have it any other way!

Your ring is beautiful!

I have a ring that looks very similar as well! It was my great grandmother’s wedding ring. It was actually passed down to me on my 18th birthday. It has sapphires on the sides and it will serve as either my something old, or something blue…haven’t quite decided yet!

You could always have your emerald made into a necklace…it’d be a shame for such a lovely stone to sit in a drawer when it can be out and appreciated as often has your diamond!

love all of your rings! my engagement band looks kind of similar to yours - at least in the cut out filagree on the interior edges! mine was vintage from the 20s, but bought at an antique shop, not handed down ( that would have made it even better). my band is also a 20s antique and surprisingly cheap for a platinum band!

I was loving on some Beth Cyr stuff earlier this month! I love the vine and leaf ring while the Mr. loves the tree bark rings.
