I’m pretty darn excited because I just purchased my wedding band, after months and months of browsing and looking for something organic, yet timeless.

The ring I chose is from Beth Cyr Jewelry on Etsy and made of wax with single dandelion fluffs carefully pressed into the band, which I thought seemed really romantic in an unexpected way. Cast in sterling silver and 4mm wide, the ring has a slight patina that has been added to bring out the subtle textures. Plus it’s insanely affordable ($115) and makes me smile just thinking about wearing it, which deems it a winner in my book! I received my order within a week and couldn’t believe the speedy and amazing customer service from Beth. Etsy is my absolute favorite place for offbeat wedding finds.
For Mr. Candy Corn, he wanted something more on the traditional side. His only request was for his band to have a bit of rose gold (that’s right ladies, I’m marrying a man who isn’t afraid to wear a little pink). So, we headed down to Fred Straub, where I had a gift card burning a hole in my pocket from my holiday bonus (since I work for a magazine, some of our clients give us gift cards as trade for advertisements, thus the bling card in my pocket). Mr. CC picked out the ring within a matter of seconds, which seemed almost a little too easy, but I wasn’t about to complain! Thanks to my generous holiday bonus, Josh’s $1,000+ wedding band ended up only costing us $33.50. Thriftiest wedding band purchases evah!

Since we’re on the topic of rings, I figured I’d share the story of my engagement ring(s) with you guys. Mr. Candy Corn originally proposed with an emerald engagement ring (below) since it’s my birthstone and I told him in the past that I wasn’t really a “diamonds kinda girl (if there is such a thing).” On Thanksgiving in 2006, Mr. CC’s mom passed down his great grandmother’s engagement ring to give to me, which made me totally rethink not being a “diamonds kinda girl!”
It means the world to me that they’ve given me this family heirloom, and it has the vintage flair that I absolutely adore. Once we become a Mr. and Mrs, I’ll be wearing my wedding band on my left hand, with the engagement ring on my right hand, since the shape of my engagement ring is so unique and my band wouldn’t fit with it very well. The original engagement ring means a lot to me too, but unfortunately I’m running out of fingers, so it’ll have to go in a safe place where I can cherish it forever.
Here is a silly, hairy knuckled before & after shot (which consequently reminds me of those celebrity before & after nose jobs shots, so I apologize if anyone else is reminded of Ashlee Simpson nose jobs):

Has anyone else received an unexpected family heirloom during their engagement? I’d love to hear your stories of how you decided on your wedding bands, or for those of you who haven’t yet, which styles you are considering!
