Who’s the Running Mate?

May 12th, 2008 @ 10:25 am by Miss Peacock

As I mentioned in a previous post, Mr. Peacock and I sit on opposite sides of the political spectrum. We are both very interested in politics (we met working for a politician) and with the current never-ending election cycle, we have had a lot to talk about. Since our wedding falls just a few months before the election, we couldn’t help but include something political in the wedding festivities. Mr. Peacock has happily taken control of the rehearsal dinner and is looking forward to giving it an election theme. The only input I gave is that I would love for it to be vintage- i.e. Kennedy v. Nixon, not Bush v. Gore- and that we be on the same ticket. Elephants and donkeys, working together. Done and done.

Mr. Peacock is a little protective over his ideas, so I can’t give too many details, but I promise to share photos later! Here are a few hints as to what we are planning…

It’s totally silly, but I think it will be fun. Our location is definitely casual, so this should complement it well and really get the weekend off to the right start.

Am I the only crazy one overthinking the rehearsal dinner?

i think that’s so funny and awesome! our wedding is 11/15 and we have talked about how we might be really down if we don’t have the electoral result that we’re looking for hahaha!

I think that sounds like a lot of fun! It will definitely jazz up the rehearsal dinner and make it entertaining, as well as different! I think that is a great idea!!

I love your idea! What a wonderful way to bring yourselves into your planning and to personalize your party! Guests will love it:)

I am also overthinking my RD. Our wedding is not until June 2009, but I already have a bluegrass band booked, have priced out checkered table cloth rentals and floating sunflower centerpieces for the venue (already booked), and have picked out/ordered a groom’s cake. Since the wedding is a bit more fomal, I am planning a casual RD complete with the FI’s beloved bluegrass band as a surprise to he and our guests (We are inviting everyone because most of our guests are from OOT).

Love the idea! we also sit on opposite ends of the political spectrum. In fact, my Republican fiance barely let me display my vintage Kennedy campaign hat! I only got it in the house after saying it was a important piece of presidential campaign history and if he had a Nixon campaign hat, I’d let him display it too (maybe).

I love this idea! Mr. Jasmine’s birthday is in late October and mine is on Election Day, so we’re planning a joint birthday celebration with an election theme :) I’ll have to hit you up for some fun ideas!

I got the new Oriental Trading catalogue at work today and thought of you. They have a lot of Fourth of July decor going right now but some of it would work perfectly for your theme (and some of it is outrageously cheese-tastic!)

I think it’s great!!! - especially since your friends and family are probably familiar with your political interests and will find it very cute.

I was thinking of doing a mock “Newlyweds” game show with us, our parents, and maybe some of our married siblings. Until reading your post, I hadn’t thought about bringing the idea into decor… maybe I’ll have to work up some groovy, bright 60’s items…

I love hearing that you and your fiance are on opposite ends of the political spectrum!

My fiance and I met at a party, where we drank mudslides and hotly debated abortion- we have similar goals for what we want in the world, but different ways of approaching it.

It’s inspiring to hear of other couples who are very different but allowing their love to be a unifying force.

Thanks!
