Accessorize Me, Part Three

May 14th, 2008 @ 1:05 pm by Mrs. Cupcake

Shoes, glorious shoes….. how I love you so!A few months ago I posted about finding the perfect wedding day shoe. I finally decided to take the plunge a few weeks ago and I ordered three pairs from Zappos:

Liz Rene by Touch Ups - Melissa

Touch Ups - Abby

Touch Ups - Nona

After receiving all three ridiculously fast (I think about 36 hours after I ordered them), I immediately tried all of them on, and the hands down winner was the lovely Melissa. While the Abby and Nona looked cute in pictures and they met my not-too-high-heel requirements, they just looked goofy on my feet. That’s not to say they won’t look adorable on someone else…. but they were not right for me. I also found that they were a bit stiff and not very comfortable. The Melissa shoe was much more comfortable and much more flattering on me, and I was thrilled because all along it was the shoe that I wanted to work out. I love the bling and I love the overall look. The Melissa shoe was slightly more expensive than the other two at $89 (compared to $64 for Abby and Nona), but still not a bad price, and apparently the additional $25 means more comfort.

Here they are on my tootsies….

They are dyeable silk, so I am going to have they dyed a slight ivory so they are not too stark white next to my champagne dress. I have plenty of time to break these babies in, so I’ll be strutting around the house in them for the next 4+ months! :-)

How is your shoe search going? Are you finding it difficult to find comfortable shoes that won’t break the bank?

I bought a pair of black Mossimo shoes at Target for $20 last December, loved them so much that I bought them in white and gave them to my mom to keep for when I get married. I’m now engaged and hope that they will match my dress. These shoes are cute, comfortable and cheap!

Those are BEAUTIFUL on you! Very glamorous, I think you chose well. I got my shoes before the dress…yes I realize that that’s probably really weird. But I had fallen in love with these J Crew satin flats that were like $160. My fiance is short, and anyway, I’d rather not have much of a heel because I intend to spend as much time as possible on the dance floor! I was worried about finding a flat shoe that I would love, could wear again, and could afford. So I found them new on eBay for $60 in a great mandarin orange so I went for it.

I really want to buy shoes and have them dyed a pale blue. I’ve never had shoes dyed before, if it rains does the dye run?

Those are beautiful! I haven’t even started to look for shoes. Right now I’m stuck on veils :).

Miss Cupcake, I love those shoes on you! They look like they fit really well, and D’Orsays sometimes are hard to fit. So yay!

I’m having a really hard time finding shoes. :-( Luckily, our wedding isn’t until October, but I’m already searching for the perfect shoe–I had a terrible injury a couple years ago that resulted in 15 screws and two plates in my ankle/leg. Because of this, I now wear a very-hard-to-find (even online) 10.5 on my left foot instead of my former 10! Grr. (I usually buy tens or elevens now, though European shoe sizes 41 and 42 seem to fit best.) Also, I’m 5′10″ and Mr.GV is slightly shorter than I am. Unfortunately, though, flats are really uncomfortable for me, and though I normally don’t feel too weird about being taller than him, I’d rather not tower over him on our wedding day. So I want to find a 1.5-2″ heel/wedge that’s still a little chic/sexy/cute but definitely supportive and not orthopedic looking. My dress is champagne with red, eggplant, and teal. I’m open to any colors, patterns, anything, though I’m thinking bronze. Any ideas?

Laura, the dye might run a bit if it rains… I wore dyed shoes at my sister’s wedding and at the end of the night when I took my shoes off, I had burgundy lines on my feet were the edges of the straps had been. And that was with no rain. But pale blue wouldn’t be as noticeable. Still, you might want to ask about waterproof dyes.

I found my beloved Alexander McQueen stilettos on eBay on the cheap! I think I got them for like 70% off retail WITH shipping.

i got my shoes from zappos.com too! great shipping and great costomer service.

someone suggested to me to wear socks when you are breaking in your shoes around the house. I think it is working for mine.

LOVE the shoes - so charming and elegant! For my shoe hunt, I knew I wanted a pair of Comme Il Faut tango shoes - I tango and will be doing a tango or two at the wedding.

The shoes are fabulous to look at and manage to be some of the most comfortable heels I’ve ever worn. I had two pairs already and figured I’d get good enough use out of the third pair post-wedding to justify the price tag ($180 in the US).

The problem is that they are hard to find and you never know what you’re going to get. I know a couple of dealers (yep - shoe dealers… these things are addictive!) and coordinated a meeting at a dance festival. Out of three tables of shoes I finally found THE pair. Fuscia 3.5″ strappy sling-back T-strap sandals with a jet black heel. Even the moms approve. They’ll be a fun flash of color under my ivory dress!

If I wasn’t already set on those, I’d probably be logging on to zappos right now for a pair of Melissa, though!

@Christine: The Melissa shoes were true to size (I’m an 8); the other two that I ordered felt a bit big and if I had liked them I would have needed a 7.5.

Great shoes Miss Cupcake! They’re so classy yet stylish. Did you end up getting them dyed afterall? I have an ivory toned dress and am considering these as well. Did you find them too stark white to match your dress? Or were they slightly ivoryey enough that they didn’t have to be dyed?
