This past weekend, my brother & his wife, and Mr. Candy Corn and I visited my parents for their 40th anniversary. Since our parents have spoiled us for our 20+ years of existence, we decided to pay them back. Our first surprise was to take them out to dinner at Hotel Hershey (oh my goodness, chocolate cherry bread is AH-mazing).

After dinner, we took family photos by the fountain.

Once we were done saying cheese, we told our parents that we wanted to take more photos on the balcony, which we said was down the hallway. The truth was, we had gotten them a hotel room and set it up with rose petals, red votive candles, a framed photo of them on their wedding day and a drawer full of their overnight necessities. I had put an “anniversary mix” together and played their wedding song on a loop, so when we walked by their room (which was on the way to the “balcony,” which we totally made up), we figured they would hear their song and realize the room was for them.
Not so much. My dad and mom peeked into the dimly-lit room and after a bit of coaxing, finally made the connection that it was their wedding song playing (I made the mistake of downloading the Bobby Darin cover, as opposed to the Andy Williams original). Even after that, they wanted to keep walking down the hall because they didn’t want to get in trouble for looking into someone else’s room (they thought it was just a coincidence that their wedding song was playing in an open hotel room…haha). After a few minutes of us trying to get them to realize it was THEIR room, we just had to say “Happy Anniversary!” which resulted in a lot of crying and hugging on their end.

Shiny, happy parents.
I get so excited at the thought of celebrating our first wedding anniversary together, I can’t even imagine the big 4-0. I can’t believe there are only five months until our wedding! I guess time really does fly.

Have you guys put any thought in how you’d like to celebrate your first wedding anniversary? We’ll probably just whip out some really stale wedding cake and watch our wedding DVD like total goobers.
