Sock it to ‘em!

May 16th, 2008 @ 1:44 pm by Mrs. Sundae

Horrible title, I know. I would offer up the excuse that it’s Friday and my brain is toast, but let’s face it… my titles are always lame! ;) Anyhoo, this is a post about socks. As soon as I became addicted to photography blogs and saw pictures like this (via whitebox weddings):

I knew I had to have a sock shot of my very own. I figured the hard part would be convincing Mr. Sundae to go along, but he (albeit reluctantly) agreed right away! It was kind of an, “alright, whatever you want” response, but I took it. The hard part was finding the socks.

Mr. Sundae’s only stipulation was that they had to be argyle, not striped. I assumed that finding green argyle socks would be easy… and I was wrong. There are some green argyle socks to be had, but since we were going to buy them for Mr. Sundae, his two groomsmen, and our Dads I didn’t want them to cost more than $5 or $6 per pair. When I was at my parents’ house a month or so ago, my Mom and I walked into Macy’s and she suggested we check out their sock collection (see: aforementioned Super Mom powers). Sure enough, there were some green argyle socks staring us in the face, and they were 3 for $13! Score! The bad news was, there were only 3 available in the light green color we liked:

We decided that those would work for Mr. Sundae and the two groomsmen and that we could get a darker shade for the two Dad’s (who will no doubt be completely confused about why we want to take a picture of their socks):

And here they are all together.

We also have two ushers in the wedding party, so I still have high hopes that we’ll be able to find two more pairs of the light green socks. Super Mom is on the case as I type. I know that some of the Bees are going for a sock picture - are any of you? Have you had a hard time finding socks?

I love this idea too! I just told FH to NOT wear boring black socks and maybe he can round up something fun for the boys.

Not sure if this green pair would mix in with the ones you already have… then again, you might be able to get seven matching pairs:

Wooo! Great idea! My guy always laughs about how he used to wear white socks with his navy uniform in highschool band many years ago… It would be soo fun for him to start another sock revolution! *evil grinz*

Yeah!! great idea indeed. But would this green pair match with the dress already bought. Those colourful socks are not too attractive and also they look very funny.

BEE SURE to S-P-E-L-L it out for your photographer (better than I did…)

I had thought that I was pretty clear about what I wanted, and rather than getting an organized close-up (like in this picture in your post) I got a disorganized legs everywhere full body shot of all the boys, ring bearers, dads (with each person in different stages of pant lifting) - fail

Anyhow I just thought I would warn you. I wasnt around when the boys were taking their formal shots, so when we were all taking shots together I asked several people (including my husband) if the photographer got the sock shot, and everyone said yep it’s done (apparently no one knew how I wanted it, why aren’t these boys reading Martha Stewart and catching up with WeddingBee?)

Good Luck!
