Looking Back, Continued…

May 18th, 2008 @ 12:34 pm by Mrs. Corn

This installment of my ‘Looking Back’ series* focuses on one of the details about my big day that I am incredibly thankful for:I am so very, very happy that I planned to have all of my planning done the weekend before our wedding.

If you recall, I had quite a lot of DIY elements to my wedding:

Now, normally, I can procrastinate with the best of them, but during the planning process, I constantly reminded myself that I didn’t want to be running around all stressed out the week before my wedding. And it worked! I also managed to do all of my projects with the Saturday before my wedding as the due date. By keeping that date in my head as the complete last moment that I could get anything done, I was able to take the week before the wedding and relax. How many brides get to say that?!

So I encourage you to look at the calendar and figure out what date needs to be your cut off date and stick-to-it! It really made such a difference on my stress levels on the actual day of my wedding. :)

I’m so glad I did this:
renting a full length mirror

I wish I could fix this:
being too proud to start a few minutes late

I’m so glad you had things done that early! Mr. JCM also has plans to have things done completely at least a week before as well. No tying and processing programs or doing last minute DIY things.

It’s good to be able to enjoy the moments and days leading up to the event and enjoying family and friends coming in for the event as well!

I did the same thing and it was so lovely to do family things without focusing so much on what I should have been doing instead. Actually, I owe my thanks to Mrs. Blueberry, because even though I followed her blogging the most and her wedding was beautiful, she was blogging about things she hadn’t done 24 hours before the wedding! I knew that I didn’t have the ability to be so productive under all that pressure, so anything I could do beforehand, I did. Then I made step-by-step lists of what I couldn’t do until the last minute so that when I did them, I could just follow the list robotically. It’s the single most important piece of advice I give to my friends who are getting married.

I keep thinking that it is too soon to do this or that. I get worried that I will be done too long before my wedding and be sad that all the planning is done. After reading your post I slapped myself in the face and started making the escort cards.

I am really glad this has been a helpful series. I hesitated doing it because in reality, my wedding was absolutely perfect and these things are all pretty minor. But I know that this is the type of information that I was desperately looking for when I was preparing for the wedding, so I figured someone would appreciate it :)

Mrs. Corn, What did you do for your favors? It looks like a little jar of salt in the picture.

Hi DrB,

Made two types of favors, ornaments and rosemary-salt, you can read about them here:

Renee,

I blogged about the branches here:
http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/06/20/one-mans-trash/

I actually did end up using the same ‘vessel’ to hold the branches. I just filled it with some sand and shells to keep the branches in place.

Additionally, I wrote about the guest book wish tree sign here:
