Bridesmaids’ Dresses

May 19th, 2008 @ 1:31 pm by Mrs. Cookie

Like many, my bridesmaids live all over the country and won’t be coming to Colorado until the wedding. In addition, they are all different sizes and heights from 5’1″ - 5′ 11″, size 0 - 14. I wanted to find them a dress that they could potentially wear after the wedding, made them feel comfortable, and universally looked good on each bridesmaid. My mother also graciously offered to pay for the dresses, so I had wanted to find them for under $100 each.

Back in November, I was surfing the internet at work (I know I am a bad employee!) looking at the Ann Taylor Celebrations dresses. Luckily, they were having a sale on the Chloe Dress in Espresso. It was brown which fits with our wedding colors, A-line to fit all the different body types, and at $79.44 I couldn’t beat the price.

In Denver, both the Ann Taylors at the Cherry Creek and Park Meadows Mall have Celebrations collections in store, so I took my FSIL and FMIL to try on the dress and see how it looked in person. Below is my FSIL in the dress.

I love how simple and elegant the dress is. I told them they could accessorize however they wanted, and subsequently two of my bridesmaids volunteered to knit all of them blue shawls — the mountain air can get pretty cold even on a September night. I also told them they could get any brown shoe that made them comfortable.

Picking out the bridesmaids’ dresses was one of my first big wedding decisions, after securing our venue, and it kinda felt weird to buy their dresses before even looking for my own. Although, I am totally glad that I have the bridesmaids dresses checked off my To-Do list.

Are your bridesmaids wearing Ann Taylor Celebrations bridesmaid dresses as well?

Yes, my girls are wearing the Chloe dress in Cornflower Blue with Espresso sashes. We got them for $74.99 with 25% off — a whopping $60 total per dress. I actually bought them two weeks before I was engaged because I just couldn’t pass up that bargain! :)

My BMs didn’t wear AT dresses… BUT we did pick out their dresses before picking my own. It was one of my first big checks too and it felt like a huge check!

My girls will be wearing Ann Taylor Chloe dresses in black. I purchased them last October, when they went on sale. I, too, bought them before I got engaged… I just knew they were the perfect dresses, and I couldn’t pass up such a good deal! I even bought one for myself!

I wore that dress as a bridesmaid about a year and a half ago, and I love it! It’s about as universally flattering as you can get - and I’ve even re-worn it! :)

My bridesmaids are wearing the Celebrations dresses in Berry (halter and strapless, they could choose) as well! They are such great quality and little need for alterations.

My MOH is wearing the V-neck in brown. Since she’s my one and only BM, I let her pick out whatever she liked within a set of colors. We had SUCH a hard time finding a dress that was: formal, not strapless (she’s a very modest dresser), AND under $200!! Arg!

She doubled-up discounts and got the dress for almost half-off. She loves it!

Mine are wearing the Chloe in Navy. I love how even though there are several of us ‘bees’ with same BM dresses, it is so simple and elegant that there a number of different ways to dress it up!
It was also one of my first wedding decisions!

As a BM, I had the opposite experience purchasing a dress at AT. It has been a nightmare! I tried doing everything right but of course it became a long drawn out miserable ordeal. My patience definitely started to wear thin after the store did not have my size to try on, no stock on line, 2 months of checking & calling to find if will be in stock, odd sizing (too big) and difficult returns. It has been since January that I have been dealing with this and I think it will finally be settled in a few weeks when I receive credit for my last return. Personally I am staying far-far away from AT. I would pay $100 more for less stress and a better looking dress!

My BMs will also be wearing Ann Taylor dresses but they will be in the Cameron dress. You just can’t beat $80 for a BM dress… and one that is easy for everyone to get either online or in a store. It was an easy one to check off!

My MOH (sister) is wearing one (I forget the style–it might be the same as yours!) in Meadow Green and bought another in Espresso! I almost bought myself one!
She also found out, about 10 days after she bought hers, that if it goes on sale w/in two weeks, you can get the difference in price back–which she did. So her MOH dress was only about $50 or less. Great deal, and I LOVE the dress.

Hello Cookie- I’m a Denver bride too, with the same taste in bridesmaids dresses. Everyone has their Celebrations dress in Meadow Green except for the MOH, who apparently wants to torture me. She’s passive aggressive and doesn’t like the dresses at Ann Taylor, and is hoping that I will let her buy a dress she likes in an almost matching color. I might have to lay down the law.

Also, if you happen to be in Lodo the weekend after Fourth of July and see a bachelorette party in 80’s prom dresses, that will be me… in all of my mortification.
