About candycorn

My most recent obsession is trying to figure out what to decorate the white, wooden aisle chairs with for the ceremony (think super affordable!). I love Martha’s pom poms, which are supposedly incredibly easy to make. I’m thinking we could just make these in our colors to decorate the aisle with, what do you gals think? It would be uber cheap and cute…two c-words I can totally live with!

Our only other “decorations” we have in mind for the Chinese Rotunda (where our ceremony is), is our light blue & chocolate brown aisle runner:

The aisle runner we’re renting from partymosaic.com ($75)

Should we plan to have more decorations, or will the space itself be enough as it is? We can’t afford anything chuppah-esque or fancy lighting or flowers, so we had just planned to stand at the end of the aisle with our officiant, plain and simple (with a small table to the side for the sand ceremony).

Here’s a reminder of what our space looks like:

Thanks in advance for any suggestions! You guys come up with the greatest ideas EVAH!

Those pom poms look cute! It would be a good idea for them to act as pomanders since you were thinking of them running up and down your aisle.

Hi Miss Candy Corn,

I actually found some pictures that would match your scheme exactly since I chose the same colors for my wedding. For the ceremony, the colors were blue and brown just like yours, and they had hydrangeas hanging from each chair tied with a long ribbon that was blue on one side and brown on the other. The hydrangeas were connected between the chairs using white tulle. It looked really fabulous. Email me if you want pictures of it.

We’re using the Martha Stewart pom-pom kit from Michaels to decorate our tent at our wedding this weekend. The kit comes in shades of blue and shades of pink. I’m sure it would be easy to do on your own too but in the kit they’re already stacked, cut and pre-scored for folding so we thought it would be easier. We’ve been stock piling them since the fall since Michael’s puts out a 40-50% off coupon out every week so we could get them for around 10 dollars for each set of 7. I can’t wait to see how they come out but I think they’re a fantastic idea for dressing up a large space for a small amount of money.

I think your venue is so amazing that over-decorating would take away from it. Something simple will be fine because, like I said, it stands out on it’s own. I absolutely LOVE your venue!

@lauren:

Hi Lauren! Are you talking about Mrs. Plum’s ceremony? http://www.weddingbee.com/2007/07/26/pre-ceremony/
That’s where I found out about the beautiful aisle runner they had, which we are also renting :)
I’d love to do that, but the flower prices add up and we can’t really afford to do something like that.

@ncmountainbride:
That’s smart about the Michael’s coupons! I found DIY instructions online, I just haven’t gotten around to testing out my tissue paper skills yet. Hopefully they will resemble pom poms at least a little…hehe

@shibaby:
Thank you so much! I feel the same way about the over-decorating :)

Can you post a pom pom do it yourself site. These are great…I would love to do it for a bridal shower I am throwing.

PS: Is it sad that I love this site and I am no where near engaged or getting married lol.

You could also work with ribbons. Buy some thick brown and some blue ribbons. Put them on every other chair (to cost less) with brown on one row and then blue two rows down.
If you can find something that is not a flower to add to the ribbon even better, but if you don’t it could still look great.

yes thats the one!! ah the pom poms sounds like the best idea then. also, I agree that you dont need a lot of decorations since the ceremony site is so beautiful itself.

I say no need for the pompoms. I think they would look out of place in such a grand place. No other decorations needed!

no need for pom poms in this space…it is gorgeous!

A single bloom on each chair that is “in” the aisle would do…or nothing would also be great, do not over decorate this space.

I just did the Michael’s poms this past weekend for a friend’s party…they are easy, but time consuming, about 30 minutes each!! And they wilt after a few hours….but they are very pretty; you just could not make them well in advance…and it takes skill to make them “martha perfect”…I think you should leave your aisle as is

I’m doing aplay off of Martha’s tissue paper flower wreaths, for just a bit of color down the aisle and I plan to reuse them at the reception somewhere.

I haven’t posted my instructions yet, but here is a sample of the finished product

I agree with the others who say you don’t need any more decor. Your venue is so gorgeous, you don’t need a lot of frill. The runner will be a simple, chic nod to your theme without detracting from the grandeur of the room. If you are going to add anything at all, stick with your gut and go for something simple and clean like Martha’s pom poms. I do love me some cheap and cute.

Great idea!

I think those with a cute aisle runner should be plenty of decor.

Everyone is really just going to be looking at you and Mr. CC during the ceremony, anyway. They won’t notice the decorations, or lack thereof, all that much.

I used the Martha pomanders to decorate my after-party tent. They were fairly easy to make. My sister made about 10 of them in a couple of hours.

I vote for letting the space stand on its own. It’s really just so beautiful and different - no need to gild the lily, I say!

I’m doing small paper lanterns down the aisle hanging with ribbon. They have 8 inch ones at Michael’s for $1 each in white, pink, blue, and green I think. Very cheap and so cute! Honestly, I don’t think I would do anything but the aisle runner… you’re site is gorgeous!

I think you’re better off leaving the site as is. It’s an amazing space. However, if you want to see a different take on a pom check out this site: http://www.ourblogoflove.com/index.cfm?postID=29
The bride took paper lanterns & covered them in coffee filters (isn’t Miss Pineapple doing a DIY with coffee filters?)
Everything about their wedding made me drool with envy.

Have a look at knottie 99vintageglam planning bio (http://community.theknot.com/cs/ks/user/page.aspx?username=99vintageglam). She made some of those nice pompoms and it came out great. Plus she explains how to make them! ;-)

While I love, love Martha & her pom-poms, I’m unfortunately going to have to agree with the people that said no to those pom-poms. I think that with where y’all are getting married being so serious & dignified (at least it looks that way to me in the pictures), the pom-poms pictured are a little too frilly. The ones in Vintageglam’s profile (that swissmade mentioned) would look a lot better because they’re still pretty & add to the decor, but they don’t compete against it… but that’s just my opinion! :)
