First Dance…

May 20th, 2008 @ 6:38 pm by Mrs. Onion

After our cocktail hour was over we headed upstairs to the second floor of the restuarant where we hosted our reception.

Mr. Onion’s brother and one of my bridesmaids introduced us for the first time as Mr. and Mrs. Onion.

Then we immediately had our first dance to the Louis Armstrong version of “Kiss to build a dream on” — it had to be jazz!

Check out what my best friend likes to call “dance face” — that’s right! I cracked up when I saw this photo.

This is as fancy as our moves got — we didn’t take lessons as we didn’t want pressure. We didn’t even think we would have a first dance and decided about 2 weeks before the wedding to just go for it. We kept it simple and chose a very meaningful (but short) song and had fun.

Yay! So happy :)

At the end of the dance everyone raised their glasses for a sweet toast by my bridesmaid. Because the end of our ceremony was interrupted by fire engine sirens, she sweetly re-read our Apache Blessing that was supposed to end the ceremony.

Next up…toasts and the reception continues.

You both look so lovely! Odd question now - I noticed that you were dancing on carpet. Did your whole party end up dancing on it as well? I’m torn about renting a dancefloor for our reception room, which has lovely carpet. I can’t decide if anyone will notice or care!

Julie - Dancing wasn’t a focus of our reception — if people felt inspired they danced a bit, but it wasn’t like dinner was over then everyone danced for an hour. So if you’re a serious dancing crowd, it might not hurt to rent a proper dance floor.
