Hello!!!! I cannot express how excited I am to be joining the hive! I must admit, I didn’t know what blogging was until I got engaged last year and quickly thereafter I discovered Weddingbee (*cue angels singing*)! It’s a tremendous resource and I cannot wait to share all of my crazy wedding knowledge with ya’ll!
I suppose the first thing to tell you is how I met Mr. Coconut (oh boy that’s a masculine name). It was just after my first semester of law school in December 2005. I was home for the holidays, hanging out with my girlfriend (who is also a bridesmaid) at a local pub. Her co-workers were meeting up with us, and one of them happened to be Mr. Coconut. He approached the table and started talking to the others, at which point I gave him a little trouble for not taking the time to introduce himself. It was quite funny. He proceeded to buy me a drink, which was followed by a wonderfully flirtatious exchange.
Unfortunately, with the holidays approaching he was flying up to Syracuse to be with his family, but not before we could get two very amazing dates in. We were able to spend a few more days together before my spring semester started. For the next year though, we happily suffered through a long-distance relationship, but boy was it tough.
We spent every other weekend driving 4 hours to see each other. We even broke up for a few weeks because of the distance, but we couldn’t stay away for very long! Fortunately, Mr. Coconut was nearly finished with his computer engineering degree so he applied to my university as a visiting student. That spring, he was offered a fellowship to pursue his PhD, and we moved in together!
Okay, now let’s get down to business! Why did I pick this tropical moniker? I thought that Coconut was poignant because Mr. Coconut and I share a love (nay addiction) of pina coladas. It was all we drank on our spring break cruise and it always reminds me of the night we got engaged. (Don’t worry, that story is coming!)
So, what will our wedding be like? Here’s just a little dose of what you can expect from the Coconut clan: a condensed budget in a historic building with an outdoor ceremony and lots of DIY elements, including the save-the-dates, invitations, and wedding website. The wedding is only 6 months away and there’s a still a ton to do! I can’t wait to share it all with you!
We love making funny faces, though I tend to make the same one.
