Our Special Songs!

May 21st, 2008 @ 1:53 pm by Mrs. Candy Corn

The Wind by Cat Stevens - The bride’s processional

Nothing Matters When We’re Dancing by The Magnetic Fields - Our first dance

Daughter by Loudon Wainwright III - Father/Daughter dance

Love You Madly by Cake - The cake-cutting song (A JAM video)

Mr. Candy Corn still needs to pick a Mother/Son dance. Any fun suggestions? He and his mom are super close and he totally inherited her smart ass gene, so something with some humor might suit them best.

Aw, I’m using Daughter too!

For your mother/son, how about “Hey Mama” by Kanye West?

@Dana:

I love that song : )

“Hey Mama” was the first song that came to my mind too! I just didn’t know if it would be too difficult to dance to. I’m gonna ask the boy right now…

Miss CC, those are pretty much the best clips ever. Where’d the BBC/Magnetic Fields one come from?

I really wanted to use Magnetic Fields’ “Book of Love” for our first dance, but Mr.GV thinks Stephin Merritt’s voice is annoying. CRY!

@GorgesViola:
Yay, a Magnetic Fields fan! That video is from the show Torchwood, which I’ve actually never seen, but it makes me happy that they have Magnetic Fields-lovin’ in it.

We were thinking of using “Book of Love” too but we ended up deciding to print it in our wedding programs instead. Maybe Mr. GV would like the Peter Gabriel version more if you guys love the lyrics? It’s worth a shot! :)

My man is using Hey Mama because he’s irreverent like that, and his mom was a dancer, so they’re just gonna whoop it up and have fun! Hope it works for you too!

Love your eclectic taste in music. The Wind is one my all time favorites and who doesn’t love Cake. Love it.

No way! We’re using “nothing matters when we’re dancing” and you’re the first person I’ve heard of that picked it too!

Love “The Wind”–I always think of Rushmore when I hear it (probably because it’s on the soundtrack…hee!). And I’m so tempted to have “Daughter” as the father-daughter dance, but “When You Say Nothing at All” by Allison Krauss & Union Station is probably going to win out because my dad loves that group, and I totally grew up listening to it all the time.

Love your unconventional taste in wedding music! We’re going kinda out there as well, using “Masterfade” by Andrew Bird as our first dance song (runner up was “In the Aeroplane Over the Sea,” but the album it comes from is just too sad). Haven’t picked any others yet, however…

Love your pics! I seriously *heart* both Cake and the Magnetic Fields. We’re using Love You Madly at our reception. Not quite sure where yet, but I’m very excited!

Great picks!!

I was trying to think of songs that would fit into your mix and this came to mind:

Les Humphries Singers – “Mama Loo” (because it’s about a rockin’ mama without having any “inappropriate” lyrics, and would be fun to dance to)

http://youtube.com/watch?v=rUwL4ctxKi8

Of course, you could always go with this:

Mr. T’s Rap Song - Treat Your Mother Right

OMG Mr. T, what would your mama say about those camo short-shorts????

Chiming in really late, I know, but I’m just really excited that there is another Magnetic Fields fan in the hive.
