Programs… Sorta

May 21st, 2008 @ 3:41 pm by Mrs. Penguin

Okay, so our programs don’t actually contain the program for our Ceremony, but whatever.  Our ceremony is going to be pretty short, and since there are no readings or hymns, I found it hard to write a ceremony program that was more than a couple lines long, so I just left it out altogether.  But I still wanted to recognize our bridal party, let guests know about how our Thai Water Ceremony was going to work, and to also thank those that deserved thanking, so I created “programs” anyway.

Here’s the step by step:

First, I created all the files in MS Word, and printed them out on cardstock, and cut them out. I was originally going to sew our programs, but then I got really scared of sewing all of the sudden and changed my mind, however I had already purchased the thread that I was going to use, so not wanting to waste it, I wrapped it around a folded card to give the outside of the program a tiny bit of color.

Then, I secured the thread with glue dots and positioned the “main portion” of the program to the top half of the folded card.

I’ve always adored fan programs, but people always complain that there is not enough room on them to say what you want to say, so I made a sort of “modified fan” with my three insert cards. Using glue dots, I secured the back part of the fan (The “Thank You” card) onto the folded card.

Then, using an eyelet, secured the other two cards (Bridal Party, Thai Water Ceremony) onto the program.

So when you open them, the programs look like this:

The bottom portion of the cards fan out like this:

Thats basically it!

Beautiful! I love your projects. Kind of uncanny though, I just did the exact same thing (down to the alternating light blue & white cardstock but with a white eyelet) for my OOT bags!!

Awesome programs! I love them. Can I ask where you got your eyelets from? How exactly did you use fasten them to fasten your pragram sheets together? Thanks!

So creative! I’ve got to stop reading - the projects inspirations are piling up…

Seriously fabulous. We weren’t going to do programs (also a short ceremony), but it may be nice to recognize everyone. Your assembly is completely fab.

@Laura: Unfortunately, Paper Source :( I buy the bulk packs fo 100 8×10 sheets and cut them myself, but its still not cheap. Just convenient for me because I live a few blocks from one!

@KRunRun: the Eyelets are from paper source and you use a small hole punch and a hammer to put them in.

OfficeMax is great for cheap cardstock. Not the best color selection, but less expensive than Paper Source.

My programs don’t outline my ceremony either. I included the important names (attendants, family) and then little passages and poems about love.

My finace hates them, especially because my argument was that I never think there’s enough to read at weddings (he wants everyone to pay attention to the ceremon, not to get caught up in reading), but he’s won most of the wedding battles and I got this one.

I love the blue flowers on the cards? Are those stamped or printed on the cards? Did you do it yourself and if so where did you find the flowers. We are looking for something similar.

@Laura: Yep, I have a Epson Color inkjet printer.

@Vicki: You can find the image on Istock.com from user “ceneri”

Paperandmore.com has great prices on cardstock. I also got a few things at http://www.envelopperinc.com, which was slightly pricer than paperandmore, but better than other websites. Try it!

The foldover card is 5.5X5.5 and I cut the cardstock inside down to 5×5…GL!

@Bernice: Sure! The plain font is called “IT Bailey Sans”
