Trying to plan a wedding in a new city, not to mention a new country, is tough, but the fact that we can get legally married here more than makes up for it! The wedding will be an opportunity for most of our family and friends to see our new city for the first time so it will be both a wedding and a reunion. Besides my future wife, I am also madly in love with a good bargain, Swedish pastries, Tivo, and my two dogs and calico cat (in no particular order).

About Mrs. Gingerbread

How many songs have been written for or about same-sex weddings? Well, before I read a recent post by Tales of a Female Husband, I would have said none. How had I never heard of this song by Vienna Teng called “City Hall” ? I love it!

As Loaf points out, a key line is “if they take it away again someday this beautiful thing won’t change”, especially because of the ballot initiative that may change the CA constitution to ban same-sex marriage.

I’m going to go buy all of her music now. Here’s a Youtube video featuring my new favourite song to keep you company while I’m off on my buying spree.

Here are the lyrics:

me and my baby on a february holiday
’cause we got the news
yeah, we got the news
500 miles and we’re gonna make it all the way
we’ve got nothing to lose
we’ve got nothing to lose

it’s been 10 years waiting
but it’s better late than the never
we’ve been told before
we can’t wait one minute more

Miss GB - this is the song that my fiancee and I are processing to! It’s written specifically about the marriages that took place in SF (hilly seaside town) that you mentioned in your last post. This song makes me cry in my office/at home/in my car… I can’t imagine how its going to affect me as I’m walking down the aisle!

This is a great choice; meaningful without being sentimental, poignant and joyful. And Vienna Teng is a beautiful performer — you should get “Lullabye” and “Harbor,” which are my favorite VT songs. She’s a Stanford grad so has affinity with the San Francisco area and its progressive politics.

That’s the sweetest song! And so perfect for you and Miss GB 2.0! The tidbit of “Here Comes the Bride” at the end brought a tear to my eye.

Not knowing Vienna Tang’s music at all I accompanied a friend to one of her concerts. She totally blew away then, but in the hustle and bustle of everyday life I neglected to get to know more of her music. Thanks for reminding me about her!
