When Mr. Hum and I originally registered, we tried to make a balance of fun stuff versus stuff we actually needed. However, as time went by, we got a little concerned about whether or not people would be too enamored with the fun stuff and that we might have to buy a big chunk of the need stuff ourselves from the registry. With the rest of the wedding bills still needing to be paid, dropping a few hundred dollars to round out our dishes collection didn’t seem particularly attractive to either of us.

Thankfully, Wednesday’s mail brought us a great surprise while I was sick in bed (it turns out I had a nasty ear, nose, throat infection). We got a lovely little letter from William Ashley, telling us that Mr. Hum’s aunts and uncles had purchased all of our place settings for us in one go!

I never thought I would be this excited about dishes, but I’m really looking forward to getting a new (and full) set and think it’s really sweet that all the Hums went in on the one big present for us.

Has anyone surprised you with their generosity? Tell me about it!

Last week my uncle bought us our stand mixer! that was huge. I thought that would be the gift I was most excited about, but really it’s been receiving our dishes. We’ll use those everyday!

My aunt gave us 1 week in her condo in the Caribbean for our honeymoon! That was big! And relative gave us all of our plates from our registry! People are so generous.

A very distant relative of Mr. Jasmine’s bought us all of our very expensive flatware– we were both *completely* floored at his gift.

awwwe! how sweet!

I’m too far out to have received anything yet…still a little over 5 months to go…..

That picture is our every day set….i thought i might have fallen out of love with it, but seeing it again in an unexpectant place makes me excited over it again.

ms. hummingbird,

those are our everyday dishes, too. love them still, ms. gm4l!

i managed to buy myself the whole set of them over these last couple of years. now, after a few broken mugs and plates, we’ve added a few replacements to our registry. so great that they’re still around.

My future inlaws bought us all 12 place settings of our china. I was stunned and touched!

Those are our everyday dishes as well, but in red. We received them back in January and have been using them ever since (I’m sure they weren’t meant to collect dust for 5 months). We love them!
