About candycorn

Can I just say that I can’t wait for the bachelor/bachelorette parties? Mr. Candy Corn and I aren’t really the stripper-lovin’ types, so we’re being rather well-behaved for our bachelorette/bachelor parties. To start the night off, the ladies will be gathering into a girly cluster and heading over to Old City’s The Continental Restaurant & Martini Bar, Stephen Starr’s first restaurant that opened in 1996 and is still as popular and as delicious as ever.

Meanwhile, the lads will be stuffing their faces at Dave & Busters, which is basically the grown-up version of Chuck E. Cheese, minus the questionable ball pit. The massive entertainment complex has a ginormous arcade and a spacious eatery serving pizza, pasta, burgers and finger food. Classic games like billiards, Skee-Ball and shuffleboard are balanced by electronic counterpoints (Pac-Man, anyone?).

After our secretive male & female bonding, the guys & girls will meet back up at North Bowl (all of these places are within a one-mile radius from each other), where we will get our bowling on. North Bowl is a one-time automotive garage that is now a 21,000-square-foot nightlife haven. From the retro furnishings and lighting fixtures of the ’50s to the swanky bar and glass enclosed pod that overlooks the lanes from the lounge, North Bowl is totally drool-worthy. Plus, I have heard they make a mean tater tot. Or several mean tater tots. What do I know, perhaps the tater tots there are very well-behaved. I guess we’ll just have to see! Did I mention there’s a photobooth? Cos there totally is.

Is anyone else thinking of having the boys and girls join up at the end of the night? Mr. Candy Corn was all, “I want to stay close!” like a cute ’n clingy little husband-to-be.  :)

as the MOH who’s helping plan a similar party, I just noted all these down and may steal liberally… sounds super-fun!

awww…..”cute, clingy husband to be”…i love that.

i have no idea whats going with me bachelorette wise. i doubt we can do soemthign all together bc everyone won’t be in the same place until the thursday before the wedding and i am not interested in shenanigans that close to the Wedding day.

but i’d be open to it if it were possible for me.

hmmm…when are you having your party?

CC, I need to call you out on referencing the Continental in Old City, but picturing the Continental Midtown — sorry! :-) As a foodie, it’s my duty. Sounds like a great time though; and reminds me of Lane’s bachelorette on Gilmore Girls (in the girls and guys meeting up sense, that is).

@mhb:
Aw fun! Go for it!

@GetMarried4Less:
Our wedding is on a Sunday and a large chunk of our wedding party are coming from far-away places so I wanted to make sure we could do everything the same weekend, so we’re doing it on Friday Night. Then Saturday=rehearsal and rehearsal dinner. It should be a little nuts, but it’ll be fun! I just have to prepare myself for a lack of sleep.

mmm… tater tots… did I mention I have a serious love of little pillows of potatoey goodness. and photobooths. *sigh* your parties sound completely fun and wonderful!

as fellow non-stripper lovin’ types ourselves, we’re cutting to the chase and doing a combo party. we’re tango dancers, so we’ll be out dancing in the arms of as many other men/women as we like!

@Mags: I see someone beat me to it! :-) Many a time I ended up at the Continental in Old City after a First Friday, much to the consternation of my FI–he never liked the place because it was always crowded. If you can snag a table outside, though, it’s fantastic!

Love the idea of a combo party, but it’s not realistic for us–instead, one of my bridesmaids and I (since we’re in each other’s weddings) are co-hosting a bachelorette party in our city, starting with tapas and moving on to dancing.

my bachelorette party will be a couple of weeks before the wedding and FI’s friends are throwing him a secret one the night before (they cleared it with me, it’s cool, i just gave them a curfew so he wouldn’t fall asleep during the ceremony). this is all due to the schedules and locations of our friends. so, no mutual party for us even though it’d be awesome (we’re both more into fun mischief than strippers or penis straws).

BUT…my girls are planning to take me out to several of the places you blogged about for mine. so, if you see some slightly tipsy silly girls trying to bowl or running rampant around old city on june 21st, don’t make too much fun of us:)

I moved to Philly about 9 months ago and walk by Continental every day on my way to work. Though I’ve never been there. You’ve inspired me to give it a shot! :o)

Looks like loads of fun. I never considered meeting up at the end. I’m guessing my FH will end up at Gameworks, which is a HUGE video game arcade for “adults” (grown men reverting to age 13). I don’t know what the girls will end up doing, but it definitely won’t involve strippers.

Yay North Bowl! Rustica Pizza next door has awesome BBQ wings, and the Standard Tap on the corner is always a good time. Northern Liberties is my FI’s old neighborhood; such memories. =) If you’re still there for breakfast, go to Honey’s on 4th street, right above Fairmount and a block below Poplar. Totally awesome. Have fun! =)

…and yeah, agreeing with Mags, that’s the Midtown Continental pictured up top, not the Old City one. =)

my bachelorette party 2.0 will be at the continental as well! i think it’s a swanky place to drink and dine. strippers & ‘bride to be’ sashes need not apply : )

Maria Dee says:

I’m all down for the eating, now matter bachelorette or what kind of party. Strippers not always a must.

NearlyMsSubrosa says:

Very cute :)

Mine will be on a different night to his so we won’t be meeting up, but I’m all in favour of no strippers!

Weddiquette says:

Definitely! I wrote a post about joint bachelor/bachelorette parties. I think it’s a great way to be with just your girlfriends and then to join the boys so that everyone can get to know one another before the big day. The more, the merrier! :)

sarah says:

I was just wondering if anybody had any catchy phrase ideas for a joint bachelor/ette party invitation?

18.
Tiffany says:

@sarah:
Sarah,
What about “Battle of the Sexes” and have games that pit the two genders against each other? I’ll see if any more ideas come to me today :)
