About Mrs. Jasmine

Introducing…

May 23rd, 2008 @ 4:20 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

For the last week or two, Mr. Jasmine and I have been wrestling over what song to choose for our grand entrance into the reception. Now maybe we’ve inflated the importance of the song in our minds, but we can’t help but feel that the song we choose sets the tone for the evening and gets everyone in a spirited mood. So we humbly ask the Hive to help us choose our song!

Contender 1:
Michael Jackson’s “The Way You Make Me Feel”

Sorry YouTube wouldn’t let me embed the original video with the super hot girl that MJ is chasing. Anyway, Mr. Jasmine and I are both huge fans of 80’s MJ and this song makes me feel uber-sassy.

Contender 2:
U2, “Beautiful Day”

Is it bad to choose a song sung by someone you would run away with? :) Sorry, Mr. Jasmine but I love me some Bono. And what better sentiment for the day?

Contender 3:
The Beatles, “All You Need is Love”

This is *our* song. Plus, it always makes me thing of the wonderfully whimsical ceremony scene from Love Actually. But is it too slow?

Contender 4 and 5:
Anything Goes, “Anything Goes” and “I Get A Kick Out Of You”

Mr. Jasmine took me to see “Anything Goes” in London in 2004 and I absolutely fell in love with the show. It is kicky, fun, and the songs are so catchy and wonderful. Anyway, I always associate this play with one of the happiest nights of my life, so maybe one of these songs from the play it is fitting?

What sayeth the hive? Any other suggestions for songs we may like, based on our love for 80’s music, Irish rock bands, British pop and show-tunes? :)

I looooooooooooooooooooooooooooove showtunes, so I’m totally partial to contenders 4 and 5, but especially 5. It is such a kicky jazz song that has a very unique feel to it. I also like that it has such a personal connection for the both of you; for that reason I would go with either contender 3, 4 or 5 for that personal touch.

most first dances are actually slow songs. The fact that “All you need is love” is Your song, seems to make that the most obvious fit. I think it would be dfficult to waltz or slow dance to Beautiful Day, no matter how much you love U2.

okay, I just re-read your post and I’m embarrassed. To be INTRODUCED… duh. I still like All You Need Is Love (or the show tune b/c it has meaning for you.)

Choose whichever brings the biggest smiles to your faces. Its doubtful a week or more later anyone except you will remember exactly what song was played, but they will remember how happy you were.

@sunflowers: There’s nothing wrong with having a faster first dance! I think it adds an element of whimsy to what’s already supposed to be a party; my sister and her hubby had their first dance to Spiral Starecase’s “More Today Than Yesterday,” and honestly, I don’t remember even being able to HEAR what they were introduced to over all the cheering. (I was MOH and the bridal party was introduced to “Friends In Low Places” [hehe] but again, I couldn’t hear it over the applause for us, I just knew it was what she selected.)

oops how did that happen? Sorry for the dbl post and the not making any sense on the first one.

MJ - it’s easily recognizable and makes me smile, and is pretty simply stated. Intro songs need to “get to the point” pretty quickly because normally you only get a snippet of the song. I think it’s a great choice!

Beautiful Day was our introduction song. I love that song (and Bono too!)

All you need is “All You Need is Love”!

Wild Honey, by U2? Still get your Bono fix, but with something a little less popular…

By I do love the MJ - it would be so much fun for your guests (of pretty much all generations).

MJ all the way… it’ll make people wanna get out of their chairs to stand in your honor and it’ll give you more of an upbeat entrance! c’mon who doesn’t love MJ from those awesome and talented days?

It’s an entrance, not a dance, right? Love the MJ idea, and also the U2. I am a ceremony musician, and “All You Need is Love” is not the best of songs for processing, recessing, or entering a room, even though it’s a great song.

I think the other songs are much more fun & upbeat (and the Beatles song is really, really, really trendy right now) Go with FUN and Happy & Unique!

ANYTHING GOES!

That is what my pick would be!

P.S.
I grew up on Anything Goes … the main song, Take Me Back to Manhattan, Buddy Beware … all songs I’ve done dances to. I Get A Kick Out of You is also an awesome song.
