Shower Power

Invite from www.weddingpaperdivas.com

With a little over a month left, this weekend, my MOH and FSIL Hummingbird, Erin, is throwing me a bridal shower.

When she first mentioned it, I was kind of embarassed by the idea. I’m not really good at being the centre of attention and every shower I’ve been to has involved extreme levels of girliness which, since I am not a particularly girly girl, I didn’t really get.

However, somehow in the past few months, it’s like a wave of previously untapped estrogen has hit me and, as strange as it is for me to admit, I’m actually really looking forward to it. Not only have people been really excited for me, but I’ve been really touched by people who are making an effort to come (one of my friends, Kim, a.k.a. zombiebride, is braving public transportation to get from Toronto to Hamilton, where my shower is being held).

So, today after work, I’m meeting Mr. Hum at the train station and we’re headed out to celebrate. Dainty sandwiches and paper plate hats, here I come!

Has there been any aspect or event leading up to your big day that you’ve been surprised to find yourself looking forward to/enjoying?

I also didn’t want a shower originally. But my sister was really excited to throw me one, and eventually I gave in. I don’t know if it’s just that I appreciate her sweet intentions or if I’m really starting to kick into “bride mode,” but I’m also starting to get excited for it.

I have a hard time as the center of attention, too. My MOH arragned to have a Victorian Bridal Historian come and speak at my shower…which is tomorrow, too!! I am excited to see everyone, but it is very different not doing a thing for a party!!!
Have fun!

Haha…I’ve evolved from a “This crap is dumb” to a “OOOO! A Tea Party Shower!” kind of chick throughout this process. Kinda embarassing, but I love it! Showers are so fun…youll have a blast!

The shower, for sure. Ours isn’t until August, but I was sort of dreading it until recently. My MOH and I went to dinner last night and chatted a little bit about and now I’m excited - it’s probably the one part of the planning process that I have little/no hand in! :)

Oh boy. The showers. Somehow there are already three showers planned for me. While I’m SO TOTALLY flattered, I imagine that by the time they roll around (Aug/Sept) I might be a bit showered-out. My biggest hope is that I will be able to actually relax during them!!

oh hum, i wouldn’t miss you prancing around in a paper plate hat for the world :p
i’m still iffy about showers, but my mom really wants to throw me one. i’d imagine her and one of my bridesmaids will probably scheme it all behind my back and soon i too will prance around with a paper plate hat…
so excited!!!! i’ll see you tomorrow!!!
