Last Friday, the Gingerbreads headed down to city hall the local drug store, London Drugs, to get our marriage license. I was so bummed when I read the Vital Statistics page on how to get married in British Columbia. Marriage licenses are issued by a notary public or an insurance services office. How unromantic!
Seriously, this is where we went to get our marriage license. But really, I should not be complaining. It rocks to be able to get a marriage license at all! Woo hoo, marriage equality! I love you!
Miss GB 2.0 tried to get a marriage license once in California and was denied, so we wanted this to be a reparative experience. Just popping in to the drug store seemed too anti-climactic. A couple of friends (who are a couple) volunteered to come along to make it more eventful. Our friend, Vero, shot the photos, while her partner (the romantic kind, not the business kind), Michelle, shot video.
Here we are at the Insurance desk at London Drugs applying for our license.
In B.C., only one member of the couple has to come in to apply for the marriage license. This is what a non-gender-specific marriage license application looks like. The following information needs to be provided about both people:
Full name
Birth date and birth place
Marital status
Current address
Miss GB 2.0 tells the camera about our marriage license.
Marriage license: $100. The freedom to marry the person you love: priceless!
