For First Time Readers…

For First Time Readers... : wedding announcements features Width=
We recently got an email from a reader who said she introduced her friend to Weddingbee… but then noticed her friend had trouble keeping track of all the bees. It’s true - it can be a bit overwhelming to come up to speed for first time readers!

So to help new users get to know the bees, we’ve whipped up a module on the front page that shows the most active bees on the site. If you click on the icon for a bee, you can easily see the posts from that blogger… and see their bio too. Hopefully, it’s a nice way to ease into the site. :-)

We’re still working out some tweaks, but traffic is low because of the 3 day weekend in America so we thought we’d just try it out. Let us know what you think!

I find it helpful to follow the bees that are in my city. They provide me with the most relevant info and tips about local vendors. I wish I could follow them.

So-I wasn’t sure where to leave this comment. But-I’m trying to sign up for an account, and I fill out all the info and never get my password or confirmation email in my inbox? I’ve checked spam filters and everything…I want to be a member of the hive and message boards! Thanks!!!!

I wish there was a way to go to the oldest posts on the bee’s blogs. Unless I missed it if you want to read through a particular blog you have to start at the most recent page and keep hitting older until you get to the start. This would be really nice for some of the Mrs. blogs.

I think this is very helpful. Could you add the mouseover bio boxes to the icons as well?

@kimi: We had meant to have that as part of the launch, but it was too hard technically! We’re still looking into it and hoping :-).

@Miss Penguin: heh heh… yeah, I thought it was sort of funny that the Bees were going to end up in a little race. Kind of reminded me of this: http://mlb.mlb.com/mil/fan_forum/racing_sausages.jsp

@GorgesViola: Ah definitely not our intent. We just renamed the module to “Meet the Bees”, which more closely matches what we’re going for…

On a bee’s page underneath her profile picture there are links to newest and oldest. Then you just have to go to the bottom of the page and work your way up…

Great idea! But when you hover over a bee’s icon, the pop-up is hidden behind the icons, which doesn’t really make the feature that useful. Also, this is small, but is it possible to make the icons all the same height? It looks a little messy now. Thanks for your hard work on this!

Very, very cute and easy to use! Nice work, Mr Bee. You’re probably already working on this bug but just in case… the bios don’t match up to the thumbs (in Firefox & IE) and in IE the bio box pops under the thumbs (can you tell I work in comms?? ).

Thanks guys… yah we’re trying to get that those hover bios to work, but hit the snags you guys described above. We’ll regroup and try again another day.

ps We can’t make the icons the same height, because some icons are taller than others. We’ll work to make it appear cleaner though.

This is great! It’ll definitely help my Mom get up-to-date with the Bees in a hurry!

We almost had the bios appearing when you mouseover the icons… but we couldn’t finish it before the weekend was over.

We’ll hopefully wrap that up sometime this week, along with fixing the height of the fourth row of icons. We’ll keep you guys posted…

@CaitStClair: how long has it been like that? I swear it’s a recent development. Or maybe I don’t have my wits about me.

Way after the fact - but did these get pulled down? I haven’t seen it in a couple of days…
