Okay, usually I try to do some sort of creative title for my posts, but today, well, screw it because my dress is done! I swear there are no more beautiful words in the world than those magical four. The process started way back in January, so the idea that this crazy and elaborate thing my lovely seamstress was making for me would some day actually be mine seemed almost unreal for a while.
But now, it has been completed and I love it. Like the necklace I bought from Meg Leigh, I luuurve it. It is so awesome that, after the wedding, I could picture myself wearing it on a continuing basis a la Miss Havisham (without the bitterness and tragedy). It is so pretty that, if my dress were a man, like Chef on South Park used to sing, I would lay it down by the fire and make sweet love to it. It is so kick ass that, if my dress were a prize fighter, it would knock out all the other dresses I tried on. It is so awesome that it has made me silly beyond all reason, but I don’t care because I am too happy!
So, ladies of the hive, after months of work and several crazy dress posts, I present to you Miss Hummingbird’s wedding dress!
(As is always the case when it comes to dress posts, I am inserting the standard “Honey don’t look!” request right here. Mr. Hum, if you’re reading, please know that if you click onward in the post, there will be dire consequences.)

Oh, see now you’ve looked and you’ve turned me into an old crone. See what I said about dire consequences!
Okay, ladies, now that he’s gone we can get down to business and to the good stuff. Here you go:

Me in the finished gown.

A shot from the back.
(Hummingbird booty!)

Another shot from the back as I do the Tyra approved “booty tooch.”

Me sassin’ it up front-wise.

Don’t just stand there, let’s get to it, strike a pose, there’s nothing to it!
((VOGUE!))

A closer shot of the dress front
(and my boobs apparently. Dang that bra works!)

Again, the dress front at a slightly different angle
(the girls seem to have mellowed slightly between shots.)

The bottom of the dress
(We’re getting married outdoors, but my seamstress Allison put a little whisper of a train on for me.)

Closer shot of the back.

Detail shot of the flared skirt.

Me doing a sit test on the bed
(You can see a bit of the scalp burn I acquired during my outdoor bridal shower, which I will blog about later this week. Sadly, ribbon hats do not protect against harmful UV rays.)

A shot of me making a silly face and laughing
(you can even catch a glimpse of my awesome silver shoes!)
Having now gone through the entire custom dress process, I have nothing but good things to say about it. Being a very tall girl, it was nice to get something that was long enough for once and I loved that I could talk to the person who worked on the dress and make changes if I wanted to.
Plus, my seamstress, Allison, is an amazing person. Not only is her work great, but she totally held my hand when I freaked out about things and gave me some honest and good advice when we were in the early stages of dress construction. It was funny, I think both of us got a little emotional once the process was completed. She got a little teary eyed handing the dress over to me and on the way home with my dress bag, although I was thrilled and excited to have my dress in my hands, I felt a little melancholy because I really enjoyed my fittings with her.
Anyway, my dress is currently in my FFIL’s closet awaiting my return in a month, but I’ve got to say, I’m jonesing to put it on again because I love it so much.
To tide me over while I wait for our wedding day, I’ve got to know - does anyone else have a serious crush on their dress? Give me some gown gossip!
(P.S. I’m broadcasting on BeeTV on Wednesday at 8PM EST so pop by and say hello!)
