Paper Roses Progress

May 27th, 2008 @ 6:16 pm by Mrs. Pineapple

Since my parents live in South Florida, I don’t get to see them very often. When I do get to see them it is usually because they are working on the now 14 year renovation of my father’s childhood home, about an hour from Pittsburgh. They decided to come up this week to do some work - little did my mother know it wasn’t the house she would be working on, it was paper roses.

My mother, bridesmaid Katie and I created an assembly line to crank out some more paper roses. I had made about 40 and the three of us got another 40 done. It was so nice to have their help. Mr. Pineapple tried to help me one night, but got very angry at his flower by petals 5-8.

My mother’s roses were looking more like pine cones than flowers so she got demoted to cutting out the petals. She was a real trooper! Her hand molded to the scissors and got stuck (sorry for the fuzzy shot):
So all in all it was a great success and I have about 40 more left to make. There will be a total of 120 - 80 brown and 40 white.
What kind of assembly line projects have you roped your family and friends into?

No assembly lines quite yet, but more than a few people will assemble for our August shower where we will be churning out vellum lampshades like nobody’s business! My fab MOH and dear friend who is officiating have both agreed to help with favors as well, so there will be more than one wedding work party in our future!

Those look great! I can’t wait to see how they turn out in the decor.

So far, the only DIY help I’ve had is with the Save the Dates - which my mom graciously spent an entire day working on them with me. We’ll see how that goes as things progress.

We just had an assembly line last Sunday and finished 320 favors. The fiance took the cap off the jars, his aunt scooped up the candy, and the moms, aunts, sister, cousin and I either labeled the jars or tied the ribbon on it, while my dad packaged them up in a big box. It was fun AND quick. Since they were all here, I even had them label the after ceremony snack bags, tag the favor fans, and ribbon up our coloring books. It was quite a productive day.

Every time I make coffee I know think of you and your craftiness. I wonder if I could make a flower and THEN filter coffee through it? Hmmm…

We tried to do a line to fill the little tulle pieces with birdseed, but our fingers had trouble tying the tiny bows. Then in walks my 10 year old cousin who tied them with ease thanks to her tiny fingers. From there, Mom filled, I gathered, and my cousin tied them off. She was so proud of her handy work. She even got the job of passing them out at the wedding. I made sure the florist made a special corsage for our special helper who saved us a lot of frustration.
