Peony Dreams

May 27th, 2008 @ 1:01 pm by Mrs. Jasmine

If you’d asked me a year ago, I would have said, “No bouquet!”. I just assumed that as an Indian bride, I wouldn’t carry one. That is, until I began fantasizing about a bouquet of my favorite flower: peonies. I know I’m not the only bride out there who’s in love with round, fluffy, full peonies. When else would I have the opportunity to carry around a beautiful bouquet of my favorite blooms? Plus, my wedding coordinator pointed out that a bouquet makes a lovely “prop” in wedding portraits.

A bouquet of these beauties was beckoning me and I broached the idea with my florist. My wonderful florist and I decided to go with an all-white peony bouquet because it would be a beautiful contrast against my burgundy and gold wedding outfit. Here are some photos of my floral inspiration:

Are any of you having a bouquet of all one color or all one bloom?

I’ve always been a fan of the monotone bouquet, especially if they are made of one type of blooms. They are just so easy on the eyes I think. Like yours mine will be made of one type of flowers, either white calla lilies or white tulips.

I love peonies…. any chance you know what the fourth bouquet down also includes? I love those little pom-pom looking things! And I am such a flower novice.

Ironically enough, I totally brought those exact pictures in for my florist - my bouquet was peonies and rinoculous, all in white.

Here’s an extreme closeup:

And in this one you can see me carrying it:

Sorry there aren’t better photos, the pro photos haven’t come back yet :)

I had the bridesmaids carrying pink peonies and rinoculous, and the maid of honor carry mixed pink and white (same flowers). They were all ribbon-tied, and really, were absolutely gorgeous!

So, all that to say, I highly recommend the direction you are going!

My wedding is also in 11 days and I am having an all yellow calla lily bouquet. I love peonies too and wish i had done something with them for the centerpieces.

My bouquet is all purple. I have absolutely no idea what flower I’m using because my mom was in charge of picking up the silk version. I was very insistent that it be a “real” flower (I didn’t want a silk flower that wouldn’t be purple in real life), so she knows the name, I just never bothered to ask! Bad bride, lol.

I love that you’re rocking a bouquet with your traditional wears - it’ll look soooo gorgeous!

I’m definitely sticking with an all white/green bouquet.

@Miss Cupcake: Unfortunately, I’m not sure. I’m a total flower novice too. Hopefully someone else will be able to chime in– those little pom poms are too cute. @Miss Toucan: Yay, I love that we’re bouquet twins :)
@glory80: Your bouquet and you were beautiful on your wedding day!

peonies… sigh… I have a serious flower crush on peonies, but as a September bride, it was not to be(e). thankfully, i developed a side crush on ranunculus, which my florist claims may be available for the wedding! i’m so excited.

we’d like to use the ranunculus to accent a colorful bouquet, but the photos above are so lovely! if peonies were available, we’d probably go that route.

Thanks Miss J - and as everyone has said, they smell lovely too!

Our wedding was just two weeks ago and my head is still in the clouds. Thanks to the advice i’d read here, we offered our guests “photo cards” with uploading instructions for Flickr, and thank goodness we had! There have been some awesome photos ..

I’m obsessed looking at photos of other people’s weddings, and just in case you are too, here’s the link:

Does anybody know where I can find a chart of the colors of peonies? Thanks! I love them!

I had all white flowers for my bouquet…I’m a sucker for monochromatic bouquests. :) Mine had mostly Casablanca lilies, calla lilies, and white hydrangea. My BMs carried bouquets of pale blue hydrangea with seeded eucalyptus and hypercium berries.

I too have a crush on peonies! Many friends told me that I wouldn’t be able to have them in my bouquet because they are ‘difficult’ flowers and must remain in water to retain the bloom. I spoke with our florist who assures me that I can have peonies in my bouquet and I’ve gone the monochrome way too (but with lots of texture) with a white bouquet of peonies and ranunculous. My attendants’ bouquets will be all red.

@miss cupcake: if wikipedia is to be believed then the pom-poms look like dahlias. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dahlia
There are similar pom-pom blooms in green called kermit mums. The best part is that when I did an image search for kermit mums, it actually led me right back to weddingbee.

I don’t know if they are available in white.

Oooh! Oooh! Your bouquet is very similar to what mine was! (Which, erm, you’ll see very shortly) :)

Peonies are just evil. Once you stare at them in a few arrangements, they just suck you in and don’t let go, eh?

They’ll look beautiful against your colourful dress :)

I am having all one colour and one bloom - white calla lilies. I just love the simplicity of it :)
