Shortie DIYS: Cake Design

May 27th, 2008 @ 12:38 pm by Mrs. Shortcake

As much as I liked our other cake, I really felt that it was lacking a little something. Specifically, a personal touch - I really get itchy when I’m not in creative control of wedding *stuff* :) The way I figure it, you only (hopefully) get married once, and I knew that I would regret not putting my personal stamp on as many things as possible!

So I present to you now the sketch I sent to our baker -

OUR NEW CAKE! WOOT! WOOT!

It’ll be white fondant, with royal icing piping ‘beads,’ swiss dots, and curliques- really simple, but sweet.

What do you think?

What a great sketch! What did you use to do that? That looks awesome! I love your design!!

I love your sketch! And the design sounds simply elegant and perfect - so ‘wedding-y’! That being said, do you definitely want/need fondant? Buttercream could be sufficiently smoothed to create a background for all the royal icing flourishes, and *usually* tastes better, esp. if the baker doesn’t make his or her fondant from scratch.

@shibaby:
I used old school dip ink and a nib, then filled in the colours on photoshop@Miss Pineapple: Deer didn’t go with anything in our wedding, whereas we do have bird “stuff,” so we’re leaning towards birds now :)@KS: good suggestion! buttercream will probably be cheaper too! Sweet!
