Are You Thirsty?

May 29th, 2008 @ 4:31 pm by Mrs. Hydrangea

For our OOT bags, I knew that I wanted to put in a couple of bottles of water with our logo on them. Since water doesn’t go bad, I figured I might as well get these knocked off my to do list. I decided to use Nestle bottles of water because the labels are the easiest to remove. I took off a label, measured it, and created a label with our monogram. I put about 6 labels on one sheet, then took them to Staples and had the labels printed on white paper that was waterproof (at $16 for 10 sheets, it was not cost efficient, so I probably wouldn’t chose this again in hindsight).

After cutting the labels, I ran 30 of them through the Xyron machine for an easy stick. We’re only expecting about 15 rooms for out of town guests, so I figured 30 bottles was a good start. It took me all of 20 minutes to unlabel and re-label the bottles. I made more labels than bottles of water, so if I need to get more water, it shouldn’t take long to recreate the end product. Here’s a little play by play:

A 30 pack of Nestle water, purchased from Sam’s Club for all of $4.

All of the labels, removed.

Our monogrammed labels after being run through the Xyron machine.

Labels are on!Chango wanted some credit for being Mom’s helper!

How are you customizing your OOT bags? What do you think is most helpful to put in them?

What do you think you would do instead? For a more cost effective solution? I’m planning to do this and use labelsbythesheet dot com for my labels on waterproof, sticky-back paper. Have you found anything else? I love the idea :)

What size of xyron did you use?

I want to get my water now too, my wedding is also in September, but my fiance says it’s too early. I say he’s crazy!! Chango is precious!

Those are very cute. I know I’ve said this before, but your logo is super cute. Here is a list of things I think would be good in a welcome bag/basket.

Welcome letter/Map of wedding related activities and/or landmarks
Weekend schedule (if you’re having a lot of events)
Flyers for sights/events if it’s a destination wedding or you live in a really cool city.
Water
Sample sizes (2-4 pills) of Advil, Tylenol, Pepcid or something for heartburn, etc. (You can get big boxes of 2/4 pill packs at Sams/Costco/BJs or you could be the large bottles of pills and put them in little glassine envelopes)
Small bottles of sunscreen (if you’re having an outdoor wedding or outdoor events)
If you have the $$, I’ve always thought that including a small bottle of wine or champagne is a nice touch.
I also like including some sort of food that is local to your wedding location, such as cheese straws for the South.
Other than that I would add some chips, crackers, candy…stuff to snack on in the hotel room.

so wonderful! we’re going to use the xyron for our bottle labels as well, but hadn’t thought of waterproof paper. since they won’t be chilled, i figured sweating wouldn’t be a problem. i’ll have to try a test run. :)

once again - weddingbee to the rescue, solving problems before i even have them!

my mom is custom making fabric bags, so they’ll be somewhat small, but super stylin’ - we plan on including:

- monogrammed water
- fresh baked treats (we’re insane, we know)
- custom map w/ local info
- welcome letter (on reverse of map)

KateMV - great idea about the pills. we have about 900 extra small glassine bags - now i know what we’re going to use at least some of them for!

it looks like you can buy waterproof paper from an office depot type store. Do you think it will work as well? Great idea. I was just thinking about how we were going to do ours!

missm- if you’re insane, then I am there with you. I make gingersnaps that friends and family always want me to bring when I come visit, so I am planning to make them to include in our welcome bags. I plan to bake them the weekend before the wedding and then carry them on the plane to my destination wedding. I have already told myself that if it doesn’t pan out (due to time or stress or whatever) I’ll be happy with everything else we have to include. But as of now (3 weeks until the wedding) I am still planning to do it.

Other things include:
-guide book
-candy
-peanuts
-tylenol
-poker chip shaped playing cards (the wedding is in Vegas)
-Shutterfly instructions cards (so people can share their photos with us after the wedding)
-welcome card

and some other things I can’t remember right now

Thanks. I say it for all the poor souls that have been in a hotel room “the morning after” without anything for a wedding hangover. I’ve been there. I wished I was dead!

As far as the baked goods…you are crazy. You better save some of those pills for you.

A little thing about homemade goodies, make sure if you put tree nuts or peanuts in them and it’s not obvious that you label it so. I’m allergic to tree nuts (pecans, walnuts, almonds, etc.) and homemade treats are always a minefield for me. Just a thought.

If your bottles aren’t going to be soaked in ice…. simply print them using laser glossy paper. It’s automatically waterproof then.
I bought a package of the paper for $5 at Staples (for 500 sheets) and just used a color laser printer and attached each using 2 glue dots. Super easy to align that way as well… since you don’t have to worry about wrapping it perfectly from the start.

This is such an easy, clever way to personalize. I really wish I had done this. And your label graphics are adorable. Awesome work!

with a tight budget, is this the first thing to take out altogether? i’d love to do it, but don’t want to drive myself nuts, or broke… hmmm

LOVE your labels! They’re soooo close to the ones I’ve designed for my water bottles (they’re more stripey tho). You have fabulous taste doll! They look great!
