Making the Band

May 29th, 2008 @ 3:33 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

I love that Miss GB 2.0 and I had a hand in creating our unique wedding rings. While we didn’t actually make the rings ourselves, here’s a way to get that DIY experience. The Wedding Ring Workshop lets you design and create your wedding rings in about 5 hours with an experienced jeweler to guide you and cheer you on. You’ll spend the day melting, milling, shaping, sawing, soldering, filing, buffing, and polishing your creation. What a cool experience to have together as a couple!

Here are some more photos from a couple in the UK who made their own rings with the Wedding Ring Workshop. Have any of you tried this?

What a neat idea! So awesome - wish they had one of those out here, not like my ring was some special creation but still. That sounds fun! Even for an anniversary type ring. =0) I likee!

We did and had an absolutely fabulous time doing it! Certainly was the best part in this whole wedding process. EVERYONE should do this. It means so much more then buying one. I made my fiance’s ring and he made mine. If you are in the DC area and are interested let me know because I highly recommend it.

I did! In Toronto, Sarah Wan of http://www.thedevilsworkshop.ca/ is your woman. She’s more affordable than the http://www.weddingringworkshop.com/ though you skip the melting and milling steps (you get the strips of metal from the foundry in your chosen cross section at the beginning. The cost was comparable to off the shelf department store rings for us

Sarah’s lovely, making you tea and coffee (we were even lucky enough to be fed a snack by her husband) and unobtrusively photographs while you work. It’s very nice an intimate.

I love having the chance to recommend her :)

my best friend did at the school she taught at! she asked family members to donate scrap gold so she could melt it down to make the wedding band of her hubby. it looked great and the hubby loves it.

Me and my husband did this. We live in San Jose and the artist’s studio was in Emeryville. It was by far one of the coolest and unique things we have done and the rings are so meaningful. I highly recommend it!

I make jewellery as a hobby and I’ve made my H2B:s wedding band. He wanted an octagonal one with dips in it. It sounds strange, but looks nice.

I didn’t make mine as It’s got diamonds set into it, But my jewelly tutor made them for me. (i’ve got 2 cause I’m greedy :-)).

I love the fact that my H2B wanted me to make his band….I got really happy about that. I also made 50 pendants for wedding favours for all our female guests…

I love the you are doing this! As a hobby, I’m a metalsmith and plan to make our wedding bands. It’s all about the idea of our bands being cut from the same piece of metal - beautiful.
