About Miss Shortcake

“Good morning, class!

Thank you so much for doing Monday’s homework, I am very impressed with your choices, but need some additional time for marking your assignments.

*sit down beanchar, no you may NOT go to the bathroom right now*

Now, where was I? Oh yes. If you remember our previous class on pretti-pedi-ology, we discussed how environmental warming had lead to a decline in the numbers of pink, sparkly, low-heeled shoes roaming the North American suburban landscape.

This magnificent species has been so decimated that certain sub-groups have been wiped out entirely, leading some researchers to conclude that new, alternative shoe families will have to fill that glittery rose ecological niche.

One such family, the so-called “wannabe vintage shoe” seems to be on the rise, and shows promising signs of filling such a vast footprint.

SLIDE ONE:

1950s strappy peep-toe heels (image source lost)

Note the flirty peep-toe and delicate ankle straps - combined with a spike heel, these shoes guarantee the survival of not only their own kind, but of other species as well!

Let us return to the rest of the slides after a short break.

* yes, beanchar, now you can go* “

————————————————————

So I found my wedding shoes. At last. They aren’t pink, they aren’t covered in sparkles, and they have a heel (almost 2 inches - Mr. Shortcake will just have to deal!)…and I like them. :D

Finding a shoe that fit the above criteria was hard enough. Throw into the mix that I have differently sized (9 and a 9 1/2) and uber narrow feet - as well as knobby big toes and high arches - and the search for THE shoe became impossibly frustrating.

Then, on my way to work, I decided to pop into a nearby shoe store, and found THEM.

My 1950s-inspired strappy peep-toe heels with slingbacks and ankle straps.

They’re silver, narrow, fit BOTH of my feet, and, most imporantly, are comfortable. They don’t need breaking in, I’ve already worn them covertly at work, and my feet aren’t bruised, blistered, or beleaguered. AND they were on sale!

If that doesn’t deserve a WOOT! WOOT!, I don’t know what does! :D

To add sugar to my bowl of choco puffs, my super sweet, amazingly generous senior citizen friend and coworker lent me her mother’s 1930s silver and crystal shoe clips - more on that, and her other random acts of pre-marital kindness later.

Drum roll please!

My shoes!

The clips are much sparklier in person. Is it just me, or aren’t they totally reminiscent of strawberries? :D

What species did you catch?

lol…thoroughly entertaining….

i think these are very cute! and even better, i love that they are COMFORTABLE!

i was also wasting time today and popped in Target (after a foiled attempt to see a baker). i walked away with 3 cute flats on clearance. most importantly, 2 of them are serious contenders for my reception shoes….and if i can’t find a 1.5 inch, garnet red, blingy peep/closed toe ceremony option, these would happily march down the aisle with me!

For less than $8!

woo hoo!!!! i looooove a deal.

that’s great! shoes are always a hard fit - love the silvery sparkle…

when i got engaged, i know i had to get a pair of tango shoes. we’ll do tango for the first dance and i’ll be sure to use them after. the problem is that the brand i love (comme il faut - super sexy *and* comfy!) is sold in the US through special vendors. the company doesn’t like pictures posted of the actual shoes online and you never know what you’re going to get. i was at a festival, which is the one place you can usually count on at least one vendor with a table full of shoes, where i tried on almost every single pair in three (!) sizes. THE shoes turned out to be hot pink strappy sandals with a major heel, but one size lower than i usually take, but they fit perfectly. go figure!

I’m totally going to be that girl that corrects the teacher, but a + b + c = my wedding shoes. :)
Pink sequined flats that were $6! Perfect on all levels. I’d say you could borrow them, but unfortunately they’re size 6s. :( Boo! I love yours though… amazingly unique!

Erin says:

Congrats!

I similarly fell into the perfect shoe (albeit also with a taller heel than I was planning). I kept an open mind and tried on everything. Worked for me!

“Miss Shortcake, those are the PURR-ITTY-EST shoeses I’ve ever seen in my whole long life!”

**proffers big red shiny apple while wearing most obsequious wanna-be teacher’s pet grin**

But seriously, I think you made a great choice. Can’t wait to see them peeking out from under your crinoline while you pledge your slightly-taller troth to Mr. S!

**goes back to carving beanchar + Paolo Nutini into her desk and planning awesome monkey-bars back-flip move for recess**

Yea! I’m so happy for you. :-) Finding THE shoes is friggin’ tough — I’ve been trying for some time now.

::raising hand and annoyingly calling out for attention [”oooh! oooh!”]:: — anyone seen off-white peep toe d’orsays NOT made of satin?

::smiles sweetly::

And yeah, they totally DO look like strawburrries.
