My Other Dress Is…

May 30th, 2008 @ 9:31 am by Mrs. Pineapple

When I picked out my gown, it was a one stop shopping experience. I did my research ahead of time, found several possible gowns, tried them on, and bought one. I love my gown, I think it is very “bridal” and it makes me feel pretty.

Every once in awhile though I think of the dresses that weren’t. What would my dress look like if I was built like a hanger (you know the kind of woman who looks good wearing anything)? What if money was no object? What if I wasn’t worried about not feeling like a bride on the big day?

In my fantasies my other dress is:

{ Alfred Angelo 1142 }

Short. I love the look of a short dress, I think it is so fun and adorable. But, I didn’t go short for a couple reasons: 1. my wedding is in the fall and I didn’t want to be cold and 2. I was worried I wouldn’t feel like a bride (whether or not I would feel this way is debatable).

{ St. Pucchi 9298 }

Slightly Outrageous. This dress is wonderfully unique and breathtaking. Could I pull it off? Questionable. Could I afford it? Laughable : )

{ Pattis Bridal 1327 }

Mermaid. Nothing is quite va va va voom like a mermaid gown. (Seriously, check out Miss Cookie - everyone except you Mr. Cookie.) This one is particularly girly and pretty with the lace and light ruffles.

{ Maggie Sottero Fiorenza }

Red. Bold and passionate with a whole lot of wow. Red gowns are definitely stunning, but if were to walk down the aisle in one my family might not have been able to recover.

{ Carolina Herrera 35806 }

Country Bumpkin Chic. I adore this dress. If I were getting married outdoors or a warmer time of year this would be the dress for me. Plus, I could totally rock my cowboy boots in this gown.

What dress would you have chosen if you could have thrown all caution to the wind?

If money were no object, I would get the Saffron colored dress by Marchesa from the Spring ‘08 line.

I love that 1st Alfred Angelo dress too! The FH and i were seriously considering honeymooning in Vegas and having another Elvis ceremony and that would be the dress I’d wear!

Miss Pineapple, I am with you. While I love my dress, there will always be a few dream dresses that I can’t afford or doesn’t look right on me or is too outrageous for Mom and Grandma.

I LOVE the St. Pucchi dress you posted!

Ooh, I would have LOVED to do a colored dress. Red or black or purple (wow, I swear I’m not a goth…anymore, at least, lol). But my fiance’s one request was that my dress be white (or close to it - I think he would have been fine with ivory). I figured if it meant that much to him (and since I was holding out on some of his other deep desires, like I wear a full veil and be escorted down the aisle by my father), I could wear a white dress one day of my life.

That red dress is really smoking hot, though.

Great post. Hmmm… I’m going to have to think about that question!

I actually got my dream dress! It’s pink, it’s unlike any other dress I’ve seen, a mermaid fit, and best of all — a sample. =) It was 60% off!

That gorgeous pronovias gown that ms. cherry pie has. It is first dress I tried on. I couldn’t justify spending that much on a dress though :( Too bad…I still think of it often…

A good friend of mine got married in a red dress, kind of like the one you posted, and it was stunning- it fit her personality (and her coloring) way better than a white dress would have, and it was another little way to personalize the wedding.

Lea-Ann Belter’s Kaitlyn dress (2007 collection) is my “if-only-I-had-$4000-for-my-dress” fantasy gown. I’ve decided not to try it on so I can assume it would look terrible on me and continue shopping for gowns in my real price range!

Almost anything from ModelNovias . .. couldn’t even find any darn SAMPLES in San Francisco. But if I could have flown to Spain for dress shopping, you can bet I’d have one of those with cascades of ruffles!

If budget was no concern, I would have ordered the Priscilla of Boston silk eyelet 3054 from last spring’s line… I even flew to boston (for my sister’s baby shower) but we made a special trip into town just so I could look at this dress. Oh how I pined over this dress.

Hey Pinneapple! Thanks for the shout out about my dress :) I was looking at a Jenny Lee dress before I found my own. It was beautiful but not $4,000 beautiful!

Great dresses. There was actually a Lazaro dress that I LOVED when I bought mine, but it was just way too far out of my budget. I still dream about it some days. I also wore a Chinese chi-pao for the tea ceremony. And sometimes I think it would have been great to wear that dress all day- it looked amazing. But I am too traditional not to have the white dress, I guess. All in all, my dress was great for me.
