Cake Help Needed…

June 2nd, 2008 @ 10:26 am by Mrs. Flamingo

A couple of weeks ago, I asked your help in choosing my cake design. The response was really great, but the votes were split and now I’m torn between the two models. I really liked having the chandelier in the design… like many of you mentioned, it’s different and most definitely has that WOW factor.

So with all your great suggestions, I’ve decided to make some modifications. Here is round 2. (click to enlarge)

Just to clarify things, here are the specifications of the cake: Round, 3 tier or 4 tier, layer of each (vanilla, chocolate and marble cake), fondant all over, airbrush design for all the patterns (chandelier and invitation motif)

Which one do you prefer?

I like number 2, I thinks it´s really elegant

I am partial to more white in a wedding cake. I also think that the chandelier is a great/unique idea but on top and bottom is overkill which is why I chose option1. Love it!

I love the idea!!! I would do Option 2 with a fourth tier that looks like the top of Option 4. I think since the dark and light are so different from one another you need two of each or one layer is going to really stand out more than the others. Hope that helps!

I voted for option 2. I don’t care for the diamond pattern and I think the chandelier should be in the middle or on the top and not on the bottom. (Keeping more with a chandelier placement IRL)

Option 1. Easy. The wow factor is your chandelier. I mean this is not even the real cake, and I’m WOWed by the picture. So it needs to be on the biggest layer in full life. That leaves 1 and 4. BUT option 4 repeats the WOW, which makes it less wow more uh-huh-ok. I also like the heavier hand with the white which is making the warmer tones pop more.

I voted for Option #1, but I agree that it should be either #1 or #2. I think the quilted pattern on the top layer of fondant in option #1 would be just beautiful - really subtle and would add to the beauty of the airbrush designs on the other two layers. But either #1 or #2 would be beautiful!

Oh goodness. I’m not sure this is going to help - you may end up with split decisions again. I like Option 3 (or 2). The chandelier in the middle section is perfect. It takes on a spidery look on the bottom layer.

But outside of the blogging world - I would talk to your cake baker - they may tell you that option # would never work or option # will look the best for what they can do… or something to that effect.

I love how in option 1, all 3 layers are different with the dominant layer being the chandelier. I also like more white. More chocolate reminds me of a grooms cake.

I voted for #3, but meant to vote for #2!
I’m partial to less-white cakes. I just feel like less white will make your dress and the cake pop even more in photos. good luck!

Option 1, Option 1, 1, 1, 1!! :)

Absolutely #1 for all the same reasons that have already been left. White is more wedding cake and less grooms cake, the chandelier is the focal point and has it’s own tier without being repeated on another tier. Regardless, you need the tier with diamonds. The cakes without the diamonds are kind of redundant. I love this idea!

Option #1 without question. For some reason, I didn’t even really have to think about it much! 1! 1! 1!

Option 1 with a caveat — reverse the designs on the top and bottom tiers so the chandelier is “hanging” from the top of the cake! :-) What’dya think?

It depends on which layer you’re planning on cutting into for you and mr.flamingo–if you feed each other chocolate fondant, it can get stuck in your teeth and give you an icky smile for the rest of the night’s pictures.
(this is something i never even thought about before hearing it from a baker, and now i’m obsessed with it)

Ok - so you have probably already figured out your escort or seating cards - but I saw this and thought - chandeliers - ms flamingo!

I realize that that could actually be really hard, but it could also be cool to get a bunch of crystals and put everyones name on them to go with the chandelier style.

I would REALLY suggest you have a white tier for whatever you plan to cut first as husband and wife. Whichever that may be, I’ve seen some people do both the top or the bottom. Just think about that photo the photographer will take after your first bite where you’re both smiling and laughing. Not a great shot with dark brown staining and stuff in your teeth. =/

#1 is more balanced…the brown isn’t overwhelming and it looks elegant!
