Le Deroulement…

June 2nd, 2008 @ 5:46 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

I have a confession to make - we’re not having any decorations at the church. I thought that since we’re going to be there for a whole 45 minutes, I’d rather spend the money on decor for our reception site. That being said, I still thought that our guests should have a little something themish at the ceremony.

Programs have always been a stationery item I’ve loved. They can be pretty, personalized and serve as information/mementos for your guests. I’ve spent hours looking for neat ideas for our program. Here are a few I’ve collected:

Left to right: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6

It wasn’t until I read one of Mrs. Lovebug’s post that an idea for a program hit me. Telegram baby!!! So I am happy to present our (french) wedding program.

I’ve used real elements of telegrams that I found on Retro-Gram and recreated something that was just right. I used Photoshop to modify the original telegram, and I was lucky to have found one of the fonts used in the original piece. I’m really happy of the outcome.  It’s straight to the point… well that’s what a telegram is right?

Did you opt for a unique program?

I recently featured a real wedding on my blog where the bride and groom also used a telegram template for their wedding program:

Is it supposed to be “Midsummer Night’s Dream” or “Midnight’s Summer Dream” by Mendelssohn? I thought it was “Midsummer Night’s Dream” (that’s what I put on our programs), but I could be wrong!

I love it! Programs have gotten so predictable. This one really stands out.
I didn’t want to spend on decorating our church either, but my mom found out that a local nursery (greenhouse, shrub shop, etc.)would rent some of their potted plants for $5 a pot. You just had to pick them up and drop them back off in good condition. We could have rented a forrest for $100. Instead we opted for about $25 for some extra color in the bland spots. It worked out well

No one will be looking at the lack of church decorations - they will be focused on the really cute programs and the two of you! If they are anything like my relatives they will be crying and have tissues at their faces half the time anyways -

I love it!

We’re not decorating our ceremony venue either. It’s a beautiful room and always has one huge bouquet of flowers. We’re filling it to capacity (35 seated, 15 standing) so it’ll be so packed no-one will notice decorations anyway.

I am thinking about doing programs after all the great ideas I’ve seen here though!

Miss Flamingo,

I love that program idea, first off.

Secondly, GO to Omer DeSerres. Seriously. They have this new series of decals you put on walls… and one is a Flamingo-perfect chandelier. I almost thought you had designed it when i saw it (it even comes in brown). Perhaps for the reception venue? Perhaps on a board showing people where to go?

:)

I created telegrams for my ceremony as well. I am having a 1930’s themed wedding on the Queen Mary Ship in Long Beach, Ca and it works out perfectly. in all honesty…I like yours more. Bravo on the hard work to create it…it def paid off!
