Fabulous Etsy Finds Part I: Groom’s Gift

For Christmas last year, I bought an old map that shows the part of Annapolis that Mr. Tiramisu and I live in and framed it for him. I purchased the map really inexpensively from the U.S. Geological Survey website. I thought it would be a neat gift since Mr. Tiramisu is into sailing and also happens to love maps. I think it’s a guy thing, but anyway he went nuts over the gift.
So when I saw vintage map cufflinks posted on the Etsy Wedding blog a while back, I knew I had found a perfect wedding gift for my groom. The designer, Anne Holman, makes custom cufflinks and pendants (which could make very cool bridesmaids gifts too) out of vintage maps.
The sample shown in her shop is a map of Boothbay, Maine so I took that as a good sign as well! I emailed Anne and she got back to me right away with a couple of options of maps of our wedding location. I was so picky about the exact placement of the circle, wanting it in just the perfect spot, and she was quick to reply to my multiple emails.
Here’s the map I decided on:
They arrived quickly in the mail and they are just perfect. From a distance they just appear to be nice sterling silver cufflinks with a blue inset, and when you get close up you can see the map. I think it is such a cool detail that Mr. Tiramisu will be able to get some use out of, have a fun way to remember our wedding day, and I hope he loves them as much as he loved the Annapolis map.

I got my fiance a puppy. It wont be ready for pickup until after the honeymoon so i am giving him a framed picture and dog stuff the day of the wedding.

We’ve decided to just write each other a card the morning of - everything we really need for the wedding we’re buying beforehand.
Too Cool!! I did this as well! She was so awesome to work with. She found a map of St. Peter’s Basilica and then another with the Vatican wall on it to make his. He proposed in the courtyard in the Vatican and I just can’t wait to surprise him with her awesome creation! Nice purchase!
I love those cufflinks! I found very, very similar ones at a shop in Oakland, CA called Favor. They also made beads with maps embedded on them that they had created into bracelets. They’ve been big hits with my travel/map loving friends.

what an AWESOME gift. i had planned on having cufflinks made for mr. onion but never found the right person. i wanted to have a logo for his R32 VW that he loved (and sold to move to NYC with me) turned into cufflinks. maybe i’ll find someone to make them for a wedding anniversary.
i’m sure your soon to be husband will love them. and how awesome that he’ll wear them in the future and remember your wedding day/location!

Wow, great idea. One query, though: Do they have to be of the same map? Or could one be, say, of the wedding location and the other of the honeymoon spot?

My fiance keeps joking about getting a “wedding watch” instead of a wedding band so I think I’ll be getting him a watch. Original? Not so much but he’ll love it =)
