Hair and Makeup Trial

June 3rd, 2008 @ 12:35 pm by Mrs. Cream Puff

After that first makeup artist took another 2 weeks to return my call, I gave up and found someone else. I found Tasha and Sophie of Get Concealed. I really feel like they know what they’re doing, and they are super nice and fun.

Here’s what Sophie came up with for hair. She said it will be more defined during the next trial, but since we were fooling around with it this time there are a lot of flyaways and straight parts. Anyway, you get the general idea:

…and this is what Tasha did for makeup. Overall I am really happy, but I think I would like the makeup on my eyes to be a little bit darker, and FMIL Puff thinks I should have more blush (”because you’re the bride!”). In person I felt like it looked really pretty, but I felt like in pictures I didn’t look all that much different than I normally do. Thoughts?

(warning: this is not a cute picture. I look much better when I smile!)

My friend Amanda and I (she had a makeup trial, too):

I feel totally clueless in this area. I was asked to bring examples of what I was looking for… hair-wise, I knew I wanted something mostly down, but makeup-wise I had no idea. Here’s what I brought for hair inspiration:

Anyway, so that’s what I’ve got. What do you guys think of the trial? Do you think I should have more makeup on my eyes? I don’t feel like I look much different than I normally do. But maybe that’s the idea?

Miss Cream Puff, I think you look great. The whole idea is to look like yourself and that is what the future Mr Cream Puff is in love with. Too much and you may regret it, plus it has to last a long time. I really think it is just perfect

Katie says:

You look great! And my opinion is no more blush.

NearlyMsSubrosa says:

I really like it. The make-up is definitely visible enough… more might risk over-doing it.

You look GREAT in the picture with your friend (you are super cute when you smile!). I agree that the makeup as is looks good and more would probably be overdoing it.

Although I think you look great, I can totally understand where you are coming from. A little more smokiness on the eyes would really glam you up. I’m also a little concerned about the blush - for some reason it looks like it’s too low, creating this weird lighter ring around your mouth area. You’re absolutely beautiful anyway, but to me it doesn’t scream “wedding”, which obviously was your concern too. I would do another trial with perhaps some similar but different inspiration pictures, then pull from both trials, the features you loved and create the perfect look. Bottom line, if you aren’t happy - don’t hesitate to go back to the drawing board. That’s why they call them trials!

I love the makeup and your inspiration for the hair! I think it will be beautiful on your wedding day!

You look beautiful! I LOVE your hair and the overall look of the makeup is gorgeous.

I would say, though, that maybe the eyeliner is just a tad heavy on the bottom, and you could use a little more smokiness on the lids.

I also have to agree that the blush is too low on your face. I think she put it below your cheekbones and I think it would look better more on the apples of your cheeks and swooping up toward your temples.

Also, the flash of the camera looks like it made the makeup a bit shiny. Did she use any moisturizers or makeup with SPF in it?

Apparently, any SPF with in makeup, concealers, primers, etc. will make you look falsely shiny in flash photos because they reflect some of the light.

At least that’s what I was told and it seems to be true from looking at pics where I’m wearing SPF makeup and those where I’m not.

You look great but I don’t think you’re supposed to look like yourself on your wedding day … you’re supposed to look EXTRA beautiful because you’re paying for pros to do your hair & make up. Also your daily make up isn’t for photographs and videos. All the attention will be on you that day! Perhaps you can go for another trial?

lulubelle says:

I think you look lovely! You look pretty and polished, but not overly made-up, or washed out. I wouldn’t change anything, except maybe concentrate the blush more on the apples of your cheeks rather than lower on the face.

misschickie says:

what I wouldn’t give for your auburn hair…anyways…overall I think you look very pretty, but here are my critiques. I think you should add false lashes to add drama to your eyes (the model def has thick, long falsies.) Although the colors she used on you are similar to the colors on your example I think they wash you out since your complexion is different than hers. I would have her (or someone else) try using different colors, something less coral/peachy. Also it looks like the blush is covering your entire cheek area, rather than just sitting on the apples of your cheeks. I may be in the minority, but I like your bee id photo better than the makeup trial.

Forgot to add for the hair… Love the loose curls. I would try adding some volume at the top, right at your hairline like your makeup example girl.

Charmi says:

I think you look very pretty overall and very put together. But I think blush should sit higher to be on the apples of your cheeks in a pinker color (it looks to beige/peach). You could also add some highlighter/bronzer on your cheekbones for added glamor and glow. The lipstick i’m not a huge an of - its too coral colored. You should do more smokiness on the eyes and less eyeliner under the lids. For the hair, I would go with bigger curls for more volume/less prom feeling. But really overall, you look great.

LadyT says:

I think your hair is to DIE for, OMG I WANT RED HAIR…. *cries* Okay, now that I am done, the only comment I have to your overall trial gorgeousness is that I think you need a pinker lipstick…I wasn’t crazy about that coral color on you. Too much orange tones going one!

katya says:

I think you look really beautiful there! Personally I think you shouldn’t notice make-up and that it should enhance your natural beauty (luckily you have that in spades), so I wouldn’t add anything to your eyes.

katiethelady says:

Gorgeous, cream puff! I actually tried to book the ahem flakey mua you are speaking of, and she finally called me back saying “oh you called me about a week ago” and i had called 3 MONTHS AGO! hilarious. It was fun to hit DELETE to that message. You definitely made the right choice.

Sharmeen says:

Go more smokey on the lids. You look so wide-eyed and awake in your profile pic, but sorta matte in this trial. It might be the blush or the eye make-up making your eyes look smaller and droopier [because of the liner].

Nice hair inspiration though!

GetMarried4Less says:

you look really beautiful!

i see what you’re saying though…i’m no wallflower when it comes to makeup and i am practicing, practicing now so that my makeup actually looks GLAM on the wedding day and not like i’m going to work (bc, *ahem*, i’m NOT going to work)

so, i think you could go smokier on the eyes in a stronger color and be fine.

as for your cheeks….i think the placement of your blush is ok….it seems that the flash of the camera is causing the center of your face and under your eyes to “flash” so that may be giving the illusion that your blush is lower when it might not be.

i have visible cheekbones, and when i apply my blush and then relax my cheeks the color is just slightly past my nose (which i hear is a no, no) bc i’ve got some serious cheekbones to begin with. not sure what can be done about that…….no more blush though…if you add more you will appear clownish on the big day bc you will flush naturally. that happy bridal glow thing and all……

Please don’t kill me…you look a little monochromatic…you hair shade is on your eyes, your cheeks, your lips…..you need something to pop!

You still look great tho.

quickbrownfox says:

i would agree with V. i love the lip color though. just a tad more smokiness on the eye would look great on you.
as far as the hair, i think it looks lovely on you.

i dont know what your plans are but the hair style would really look lovely with a flower/crystal/rhinestone hairpin or something matching to your gown :)

Rebecca says:

Looks great. No need for more makeup. I think it would be too much.

Marlene says:

I like your makeup a lot. I think I would request more defined curls and a heavy spray on them so they stay put. You are a very pretty girl. I just think your curls need more definition and bounce.

redsoxgal says:

Love the hair! I’m looking for that same look - tousled, half-up, with some face-framing pieces. And the makeup looks great, though you could still go a little more glammed up on the eyes if you want to have something that adds that extra oomph.

MissCricket says:

You look beautiful, you are a beautiful girl! I agree that there should be more volume on the top of your hair, and for my money, I just think the hair looks a little ‘prom-y’. I think soft loose curls all down would suit you better, like in the first photo inspiration. Maybe she could try a bigger curling iron?

25.
rhi says:

Totally agree with MissCricket! You would look even more beautiful with more volume on top. Maybe hot rollers? I also think that the bottom liner is too thick/possibly unnecessary, some fake lashes on top would be great, the blush is improperly placed, and pinks instead of coppers/oranges might take you from sultry to a softer type of pretty. You have such a gorgeous, symmetrical face - maybe you should get her to try out an updo like the last pic you posted?

I knew you guys would be helpful. Now I am loaded with info for Tasha for my second trial. I love you guys. THANK YOU. I think I will just print this page out!! And also, thank you so much for your kind compliments! You guys are really sweet. :)

@katiethelady–she actually called me and said, “I was wondering if you were going to book for that day, because I have someone else interested. It had been 2.5 weeks! I told her I’d found someone else because she’d never called me back. Man, what customer service!

PS–just want to say it again. I love you guys. Thank you.
