Karaoke Down the Aisle?

June 3rd, 2008 @ 5:42 pm by Mrs. Penguin

We put off picking processional music till the very last minute of planning!  I’d always wanted a musician to play an instrumental version of our first dance song for my walk down the aisle, but I couldn’t bear to sink another few hundred bucks into a musician to play for less than an hour, so we opted to choose music for our DJ to play as we walked down the aisle.  Because of this, I gave up the instrumental aisle song.

BUT! Lo and behold! Itunes carries a huge selection of Karaoke music! Some songs sound pretty electronic, but I lucked out and our first dance song, “Only Hope,” by Switchfoot, was on the list…and not only was it on the list, but it sounds beautiful! The song is very long and boring, so I edited down the music to a little over a minute and left all the juicy parts in. Amazingly, it’s not the slightest bit cheesy at all! Have a listen…

Itunes Album: “Karaoke: Sing a Greater Hope”
Song Title: “Only Hope”

What is your walk down the aisle song and why did you pick it?

I love what you did with the song! Whenever you hear it do you picture yourself walking down the aisle?

I wanted to walk down to what is now our first dance “Songbird” by Eva Cassidy, but Mr. Cookie really, really wanted me to walk down to Canon in D. So, Canon in D it is!

Fantastic!
What did you use to edit the music? I don’t think our DJ (I don’t trust him anyway, I don’t trust anybody, that’s how I roll lately).

There is an amazing band, the Vitamin String Quartet, that performs instrumentals of all kinds of music from Dave Matthews to Nine Inch Nails. Don’t know what your song is but check them out. I used thier music for my cocktail hour instead of hiring an instrumental group. Good Luck!

How creative! Leave it to you to come up with a super clever solution. We’re having a friend play guitar for our ceremony music. He played a few selections to get a sense of what we liked. I forget the exact song name and artist, but it’s a very pretty song that works beautifully.

For the bridal party, we used a jazz-y version of “Moon River” and for the bridal processional, we used Hans Zimmer’s “Tennessee” (the theme from the movie “Pearl Harbor”). Like you, we did edited versions of what we thought were the best parts. :)

It was bothering me that I couldn’t remember who composed the version of “Moon River” that we used so I looked it up. Earl Klugh did it and it’s a jazzy, guitar version of the song. Just in case anyone was looking for a cool version. :)

We picked an instrumental version of The Flaming Lips - Do You Realize? because after only talking for a few days the Mr. told me that this song reminded him of me and that I should listen to it. Then he put it on a mix cd that he made for me
So it’s “our song” I suppose.

i’d also love to know how you edited the song down…..but, looking at your profession, makes me think this might not be something the common bride can do…..

please prove me wrong…..

@LB: OMG! It didnt even occur to me to think of the movie title! How cute :)

I bought the soundtrack 6 years ago or so and Mr. Peng and I were listening to it driving up the coast to Carmel on our first “vacation” together…we had been together less than a year then…my does the time fly! But the song always stuck with me. So beautiful. Mandy Moore’s version is really great too!

@Christine: I’m so glad you like it!!!

I love it! I am walking down to an instrumental of “Beautiful” by James Blunt, because it was our first dance! I don’t think my FMIL agrees, because she’s very traditional, but it’s the only song I can see myself walking down the aisle to! =)
