Please Excuse Me While I Gush

June 3rd, 2008 @ 1:11 pm by Miss Sundae

Well hello, hive! Apologies for my week long absence. I’ve been drowning in work these days and also enjoying a much needed break over the long Memorial Day weekend, but now I am back! There is much to report, but first things first.

I was getting ready to discuss clothing options for our upcoming engagement pictures when I realized I’ve never written about our photographers…the shame! Like a lot of other people, photography was the most important thing to me aside from our venue. These are memories we’ll have forever and I wouldn’t trust just anyone to capture them. We interviewed several people in the Chicago area, and just couldn’t find a right match with style and budget. There were some that I loved, but they were too pricey. (The one we did consider seriously for quite awhile was Jeremy Lawson…his style is amazing, he’s super nice, and his prices are really reasonable. If you’re in the area, check him out).

I kept coming back to a bio that I loved, the infamous MrsJuliaGoolia. So eventually I looked up the photographer that they used, and found out that they’re in the St. Louis area. On a whim I sent them an email to see if they travel to Wisconsin and inquired about their rates. And can I just tell you, these people are wonderful!

Meet our photographers, Michael and Lajuanna of Browers Photography. They’re a husband and wife team and they’re coming up to Wisconsin to hang out with us for the entire weekend of our wedding. We’ve talked over the phone and via email so many times that I feel like they’re more a part of the wedding party than our photographers. We just clicked right away. And on top of being fantastic people, they take pictures like this (all images courtesy of Browers Photography):

Swoon. But that’s not all, they also offer Studio B! which is their version of a photo booth without the booth. It’s set up kind of like the old prom pictures, where you stand in front of a blank canvas and get your picture taken. But then they print out 2 pictures in a square of 4 separate poses, one of which our guests will get to take home and the other they put in our guest book and sign next to. They look like this:

And produce some seriously hilarious results…

My family and most of my friends are already planning their series of poses - it’s possible they’re more excited about that than the actual wedding. What’s fun about it not being an actual booth is there is more room for antics and craziness…standing on shoulders, jumping, the possibilities are endless. So there you have it, our photographers. How did you find your photographers? Anyone else using a photo booth/station?

This was the photographer my bridesmaid used last month at her wedding! The photographs were amazing and the photographers were unobtrusive and professional all day. Excellent choice!

As a St. Louisan….I’ve come to LOVE the Browers…but unfortunately for me they were booked on my date….booo. You are so lucky to have them - they are FANTASTIC. Can’t wait to gush over your pics!!!

I would be gushing as well, your photos are going to be fantastic. Would you mind telling me how they are doing the printing? We are having a DIY photo booth as well and I would love to get a better understanding of how others are managing it.

I’m interested in learning about the printing as well. My photographer’s setting up a booth like yours, but we get the shots on disc after the wedding to share…I’m wondering if guests will understand.

That is SO COOL! I wonder if I can my photog to so something similar… I’d just hired Browers, but I live in CA and my Photog is a family friend I’ve been told, by my mother, I have to use.

I have seen several approaches to printing the photo stations. Some photographers have set up camp in a seperate room where they will break out the laptops to do some last minute retouching before printing from a simple portable picture printer for guests to retrieve at the end of the evening. Another approach is to have little thank you notes for guests at the end of the evening with your flickr account (or other photo hosting site)… informing them that you will host all of the pictures there and would love for them to do the same with their personal pictures. (This is always a nice touch even if you DO print on-site).

Hope this helps.

Oh boy, I would totally start planning my poses ahead of time too. Their work looks really great. Recently, I’ve been swooning over http://www.ourblogoflove.com/index.cfm?catID=29

They’ve got a similar not quite a photobooth set up called smilebooth & the results are fantastic. They’re a couple from Georgia.

Finally the Browers get their own post on weddingbee! And to think my measly little bio lead to you them, I’m honored. On another note I think my bio is finally dying. Maybe it expires after a year or something because my photos are blurry all of a sudden. I’ll pass the torch to you, Darci—get yourself a hot bio with those fab wedding pics!

About the printing - most of it is explained in a post on their blog, here:

http://www.browersphotographyblog.com/2008/01/why-studio-b.html

There will be 2 8ft table set up, which will house both their equipment and the printer. There is a computer involved as well, which is attached to a portable printer that can have 2 prints ready in 7 seconds. Pretty speedy! I don’t know what kind of printer it is, but I would be happy to ask. You can see the set up of it all in Julia’s bio. Hope that helps!
