Engagement Picture Attire

June 4th, 2008 @ 2:22 pm by Mrs. Sundae

Now that you know our photographers, onto the engagement picture discussion! We’re having them taken in 3 weeks, which is a huge “holy s@#$!!” in my world. We scheduled the session back in February, when June seemed like such a long time away…and here we are. How is it possible that it’s June?! When I looked at my calendar last week and realized the pics were fast approaching, I also realized I have nothing to wear. But I did have a jcrew gift card in my wallet…

I love that picture, minus the rolled up/holey jeans. It’s casual but still looks put together. However, that mustard yellow color and I do not get along. A little more hunting and I found this:

A little hard to tell, but its a silver-ish pewter color. I am planning on wearing it with jeans and either a black or navy blue Jackie cardigan over it, just like the picture:

Hi, I am Miss Sundae, and I steal complete outfit ideas from jcrew. With such a neutral color palette it will be easy for Mr. Sundae to pick a coordinating shirt (although the poor guy is color blind, so I’ll end up picking it anyway). But a person can’t have just one outfit for engagement pictures! I continued to hit the jcrew sale hard and found this:

Also 3/4 sleeves, which I think might actually look cute with folded up jeans (to make it more summery) and these shoes:

I know that sometimes bright colors show up great in pictures, but I am a neutral girl (aside from the bright green shirts I sport every now and again). My goal is to just look like “us” and try to relax in front of the camera a little. Thoughts? What did you wear/plan to wear for your engagement pictures?

I have mine coming up soon also and I’m still uncertain on what exactly I am going to wear. I may just have to do like you and steal from jcrew. Really, if I could find stuff at Macys it would work out even better because I have tons of gift cards from there. I do love your outfits, though, and those shoes!

We are having our e-pics taken in 2 weeks… and I too had a “HOLY COW!” moment when I realized that the date snuck up on us so quickly.

Thanks to Miss Penguin’s adorable pics, I was determined to find something just as cute and I LOVED the idea of a pop of color for the shoes… but alas, I had no luck finding what I envisioned.

I did, however, find a very pretty kelly green strapless sundress from Banana Republic quite unexpectedly, and that seems to be the current front-runner for the dressy portion of the show. For the casual, my fiance and I will be sporting Orange and Blue in some form or another, since they are the colors of our alma mater (where we met). :)

Hope your pics turn out fabulous!

I’m kind of a neutral girl too. I love me some black! For our engagement pics last June I wore a black 3/4 sleeve shirt with a v-neck that gathered in an O ring at the bust (did that even make sense?), slit-front denim skirt (slit to just above the knee) and sexy black pointy-toed slides.

Totally cute! White sometimes whites, black and busy patterns can be difficult to photograph, a good photographer will know how to compensate light.

How funny! I just saw this exact same post on With this Ring yesterday! Do you write for them too?

It would really be nice to have a pop of color…if you can rock a bright green shirt and it still feels like you, I would seriously consider it!

Kelsey - that’s me too! With This Ring is my personal blog. I usually try to keep the content fresh between the two, but sometimes laziness gets the best of me ;)

Those shoes and the navy jacket are both adorable!!!! And I thoroughly agree about “looking like yourself” so you’re comfortable in the photos….

What about a piece of green jewelry to match the shoes and balance out the bit of bright color on your feet?

That is a brilliant idea, Tulip!! I have a pair of green earrings that would be perfect. You’re a genius :)

auschick - I just looked and can’t find the shirt anymore. It must have sold out :(

Auschick - The shirt is still available, it’s just in the sale section on Jcrew’s website. They definitely still have mustard yellow, in sizes 2-12!

Miss Sundae! I didn’t realize I stalked you twice as much! I stumbled upon your other blog from a different wedding website. You are like a little mini wedding yoda! Such brilliant ideas.

Back to your engagement shoot quandary…I love the idea of green jewelery to compliment the navy jacket and green shoes, but I would sugguest a necklace or a bracelet. You don’t necessarily want bright big green earrings to distract in every shot.
