For the Sake of the Wedding

I love coffee.

Like… I love love LOVE coffee. But I gave it up - for the sake of the wedding. Completely for aesthetic reasons (I want white teeth!), I have put myself through pain and suffering, and have not consumed a single drop of coffee. I know instead of giving up coffee, I probably could have just started drinking it out of a straw, but to me, that sounded like a throat burn waiting to happen… so I just gave it up (and it wasn’t easy). If only I could get my caffeine intake via IV:

Perhaps I can?

I’ve instead replaced coffee with good-for-me H20. Perhaps, I can get good looking skin, too.

Have you had any dietary changes so that you can look and feel good on the big day?

I gave up coffee, diet coke, and sugar! I miss them but I’m happier that I don’t have the caffeine. The sugar was very helpful in dropping a few pounds until I discovered cashews! Now I have to give up nuts! ;)

I will NOT give up my daily black tea, but I am giving up alcohol as a way to be healthy (and hopefully not have any issues fitting into my dress) in the weeks leading up to the big day.

No way could I give up my coffee! White teeth or not, I just couldn’t do it!

I considered it, especially since I have a fake visible tooth and it stains differently than my natural teeth. I started pricing out professional whitening, and recapping the fake one to match.

And then I figured that if every magazine is filled with Photoshopped images, I could very cheaply change the tint in the pictures afterwards. So my love for coffee stays!

I gave up pasta and rice (only allowed 1x a week now)…I used to live off of pasta and rice so it was really difficult, but I saw immediate results.

I don’t think I can give up coffee…I would love to so I can have a brilliant white smile, but I can’t function in the mornings without it.

My FI gave up coffee too! But it wasn’t for white teeth at the wedding (he has annoyingly white teeth even with coffee!), but to avoid caffeine headaches while we’re on our honeymoon. We’re going abroad, where coffee-to-go isn’t readily available, and he didn’t want to have to spend every morning searching for his caffeine hit.

oh man — kudos to you for giving up java!!
i could neverrr do this…we got an espresso machine for our engagement party & that has made us even more hooked on the caffeinated deliciousness! try using rembrant toothpaste every day it truly makes a difference..ive been using it for years & it keeps my teeth consistently white.

I could never give up my coffee. I have one cup in the AM and drink water the rest of the day. I did cut back on soda though.

I have given myself a complete diet overhaul and I feel like a new person because of it! Even though it is hard not to indulge all the time, I hope I continue this after the wedding because I am feeling so much better!

I tried to give up coffee but unfortunately it did not work out. Of course the fact that my fiance is Colombian and makes coffee everyday didn’t help!

Trust me, ladies, it hasn’t been easy! I’ve only been doing it for about a week. As soon as get to Italy… BRING ON THE JAVA! :D

Not that I’m encouraging unhealthy habits or anything, ;-), but…really, drinking it with a straw ain’t so bad. However, it probably won’t make as much of a difference as quitting completely will.

that’s hard core! i’m just cutting back and will be doing a trial run with the crest white strips recommended by another bee. on the dietary front, i’m eating more whole grains and plenty of fresh fruits and veggies. coupled with new addictions to biking and rock climbing, i feel a lot better. not sure how i’ll feel when i have to give up climbing to let my nails grow out closer to the wedding, but we’ll deal with that when it comes up. :)

good for you for sticking to your plan!

tell me, has it worked? i was just going to blast them with the white strips or even ask my dentist about professional whitening. more importantly, where in Italy are you going? We must chat!

We’re leading parallel lives…I just gave up coffee a week ago as well. The instigator was that I had my teeth bleached and loved the results…so even though they said after a few days I could have my beloved coffee back I said “no” in the interest of keeping the pearly whites “white.” I recommend Emergen-C energy packets in ginger ale or water. The boost of vitamin C is good for you and wakes you right up. Good luck!

@perfect bound: I’ve been using white strips, as well (why I gave up the coffee!). I also asked my dentist about professional whitening, but it ended up being too expensive for me. So, white strips it is! Btw, I’m going to Venice, Florence, and Rome! Are you going to Italy, too?

No, but that sounds fabulous…beautiful scenery and delicious food. For us, it’s St. Lucia and we are looking forward to some quality lie on the beach time.

I like the white strips too but my FI and I had some bad staining so we had to bring in the big guns to clean it up. Just in time for the final countdown as I’m a June bride too. T minus 23 days and counting :)

I really should be drinking less tea and coffee but I seem to be drinking more. Oops!

All Natural Creme de Anis from Nature’s Gate. I started using this toothpaste a month ago…three shades whiter, and i still get to have my coffee. Tastes a little like Black Licorice, but it’s worth it knowing i’m not filling my mouth with harmful chemicals!
