An Out-of Country Shower

June 5th, 2008 @ 11:26 am by Mrs. Gingerbread

Miss GB 2.0 and I made a rare appearance together in Los Angeles for our wedding shower! Some guests were a little confused about our shower, wondering if we were actually going to be there, what with us living in another country and all. It was so great to see friends and family that we hadn’t seen for quite some time. It was also nice because some shower attendees aren’t able to travel to Canada for our wedding, but were able to celebrate with us at the shower.

Aside from hanging out with our loved ones, other highlights included…

The gorgeous towel cake that my mom made! I honestly thought this was a real cake at first glance. Doesn’t it look delicious? Here are the instuctions that she used.

Miss GB 2.0 is wearing TWO aprons! Mine is courtesy of my ever stylish friend and favourite blogger, Monkeywed.

My mom was able to convince my grandpa that wedding showers aren’t just for the ladies anymore. He even played one of our shower games :) Shh, don’t tell.

My mom’s friend made our guest book. She took polaroids of the guests and put the whole thing together for us before the shower was over! Here are a few gems from the guest book:

Please note the lengths our guests went through to get a good shot. Tyra would be proud.

Here are some photos of us opening presents.

Our guests look amused.

We got some really fun gifts in addition to the stuff that we registered for, like the book, “The Sex Life of Food: When Body and Soul Meet to Eat.” It’s really a fun read. I am learning all kinds of interesting things like about how the custom of wedding cake cutting is really sexual. Hmm, what part of the wedding isn’t (uh, veil, garter toss…)? We also got a couple of great cookbooks, including an autographed copy of the Top Chef cookbook.

We registered for only light weight, easy to pack items, since we had to lug all of our gifts back to Vancouver via airplane. The shower was a blast and traveling back was actually pretty painless!

@Mrs. Cherry Blossom: They are actually artificial ranunculus! I was disappointed that ranunculus are out of season for our July wedding, so I thought it was super sweet that Mama Gingerbread added them to the towl cake :)

@mhb: I’m glad you liked the collage. We were laughing when we saw those goofy shots :)

Man, that is one impressive towel cake!

Looks like you have enough aprons now ;) My mom made me an apron a couple of years ago. At the time I thought it was cute, but not necessary. Now I consider it indispensable. I can’t believe I used to cook without it. No more food mess on my clothes! (Particularly helpful for dinner parties when the food is annoying and won’t finish before you need to get dressed up!)

I’m glad other folks finally sent you their pictures! I’m glad you liked the apron… worried how you’d feel about us buying off-registry! Had a good time, can’t wait to see y’all in July!
