Hair Accessories, Take Two

June 5th, 2008 @ 10:23 am by Mrs. Hummingbird

After my etsy ordered hair clips didn’t work out and after I realized that we’re about four weeks out from the wedding now, I embarked on round two of Operation Hair Accessory.

Mr. Hum and I searched through a number of stores in the core until I came across something I felt would work. And where did I find this mysterious and elusive item? Well much to my surprise, it was actually at Urban Outfitters. Recently a new three story one opened up in Toronto’s awesome Queen Street West District and in spite of my reluctance to look in, I ended up hitting pay dirt and finding something that I think will look pretty cool with my simple silhouetted dress.

Anyway, because I expected nothing when I walked in and saw they actually had a few decent options, I figured I would share my find with you hivers and show some of the cool stuff they have available.

batikdoublewire
A very simple double wire batik headband.

carvedleaf

A botanically inspired carved leaf headband.

cocktailhair
A supercute birdcage hair clip.

crystalplummage
A crystal plumage hair clip.
(Lovely plumage! It makes me pine for the fjords!*)

diamante
A sweet little diamante barette.

featherhair
Another cute plumage hair stick.

leatherbutterfly
A sweet little butterfly bun holder.

meshflower
A funky bohemian mesh hairband.

plummage
A sparkly layered headband.

skinnyfeather
A skinny peacock feathered headband.

widebraid
A cute metallic widebraid band.

Although I had set out to find a hair flower and although I actually saw a number of them along Queen (there’s a little shop just past Spadina called Robo that has a bunch!), I ended up picking a feathered clip because of its great colour and its slightly unusual look. And as for Mr. Hum? Well . . .

wolverine

After weeks and weeks of wedding work and wedding errands, I could tell he was kind of weddinged out, but the fact that he was so sweet and encouraged me to search and find the perfect thing, bearing through store after store with me, totally deserved celebration. So, when we saw this cute little guy (wait, should I be referring to Wolverine as cute or does that break some sort of code?), I knew he was coming home with us.

Anyway, I’m just really happy that my search is over and that I’m ready to go hair-wise, especially since I would not have expected to find the perfect thing amidst a display of ironic hipster t-shirts.

Did you find any of your accessories in an unlikely place? Where was it and what did you find?

*I’m sorry for that, but if I didn’t make a reference to Monty Python’s Dead Parrot Sketch, my father would disown me.

Did you see Carrie in SATC’s hairpiece for her wedding? That was some classic accessor’age!

Sorry - did you just follow up a Douglas Adams reference with a Monty Python reference?

I might have a girl crush.

so many of these are sooo very cute and autumn-y….i’m going to motor by their site and check out their plumage (sp?)selection.

i never shop at this store and it would not have crossed my mind. at. all. to check them out for bridal accessories.

i guess we have to wait until wed pics to find out which clip you got, huh?

Aww, chibi Wolverine, cute cute cute. Er, I mean, bada$$. Yeah.

I considered Urban Outfitters for hats, they frequently have cute vintagy styles, though ultimately I ended up making my own fascinator. Still, your post makes me want to hit up urban outfitters again, for NWR hair glamour.

Hum, you little tease! Are you really going to make us wait for wedding picks to see your hair adornment??

C’mon, we want to see your “beautiful plumage”!! Or are you too “tired and shagged out following a prolonged squawk”?? ;)

Super cute finds. Also, just a thought Miss Hums, but you strike me as the type of bee who’d like the Free People accessories line, too. :)

@Ladysu: I did! It was a little much for me but totally a Carrie thing.
@mhb: I am a classic geek, what can I say.
@HayJ: I picked something similar to the first plumage one but with peacock feathers. :)
@beanchar: I have to keep some things a surprise, although I will tell you, I think I know what hair accessory I am wearing to the rehersal dinner. ;)
@Mrs. Lovebug: We don’t have those here in Canada, but I’m sure I would. :)

I’m a headband fanatic who’s found an awesome site, http://www.andreasbeau.com, which has the most beautiful collection of headbands and clips I’ve seen anywhere. The trims and flowers they use are so unusual and elegant! Not only are they gorgeous, they are also well made and comfortable! Take a look!
