About Mrs. Flamingo

When it came time to choose the music I walk down the aisle to, the task wasn’t easy. I looked at the usual bride entrance songs and there wasn’t anything that I truly loved… they just weren’t me. Plus, I wanted to choose a song that both Mr. Flamingo and I loved. It’s a really special moment and having a song we love will make it even more special

After an endless amount of searching, I finally found it. I will be walking down the aisle to Forest Gump’s (Feather Theme) by Alan Silvestri. Mr. Flamingo is the one that had introduced me this song. He would listen to it all the time so I thought it would be perfect. I love this song so much and just listening to it makes me all teary eyed.

Here is the song:

Is anyone else incorporating music from movies into their weddings?

Our first dance is to “I Want to Grow Old with You” which is from the Wedding Singer. It’s what Adam Sandler sings to Drew Barrymore on the airplane at the end of the movie. Not sure if anyone else is a huge fan of that movie like me but the song is really cute and makes me cry. Plus it’s really short- less than 2 minutes!!

Since we’re doing a movie-themed wedding, pretty much all of our major songs are coming from movies.

Processional: String version of Don’t Stop Believing (inspired by “The Wedding Singer”)
Introduction at Reception: Jack Sparrow’s theme music
First Dance: Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World (from “Finding Forrester”)
Father/Daughter Dance: Nothing’s Gonna Stop us Now (from “Mannequin”)

We still need to figure out my processional (originally it was going to be Don’t Stop Believing but then we decided that we wanted a lot of that to play, and it will take longer for the wedding party to process than me) and the exit music from the ceremony. A friend suggested the Indiana Jones theme, which I thought was hilarious, but in light of “Kingdom of the Crystal Skull” my fiance nixed it :-(

And we’re thinking of having all of our pre-processional music be from film scores.

FI wanted to incorporate Star Wars into our wedding, and since so much of the music is so great, we’re using it for the processional and recessional.

I know this is not movie related BUT… I will be using Cannon in D for my processional (I know it is completely overuse, but it brings back good memories for me because my dad used to play this song all the time, and I remember waking up on weekend mornings to this song… and eating family breakfast or reading the newpaper) :)

we’re using “Once upon a time . . . storybook love” from princess bride for the processional. It’s one of our favorite movies, and the piano score is really beautiful. The pianist was very impressed :)

this title just made me think of how cute it would be to have the flower girl drop feathers down the aisle and even for the guests to throw feathers instead of rice during your getaway… hmm might have to steal this for myself.

We’ll be using Sea of Love performed by Catpower - which we took from the Juno soundtrack as our first dance.

I got a lot of great ideas for songs from this website! I also really want to use “First day of my life” Bright Eyes since I heard it on here. I LOVE that song!

The Bridal Party is walking into the ceremony to “wedding” from the seabiscuit soundtrack and our entire dinner music is going to be songs from movies.

I dont know if anyone will recognize the songs but since we are movie lovers, it made sense. There are some really pretty scores out there.

I am walking down the aisle to “Kissing You” from the Romeo & Juliet Soundtrack. :o)

I’m thinking about using the theme from October Sky as my entrance music. I’ll be ugly crying by the time I get up in front, but it’ll be awesome :)

The end of Forrest Gump always makes my fiance cry! Maybe I can sneak this song into our playlist somewhere?

Oh, I love that song from Forrest Gump! I remember when I was a child, and I tried to play that on the piano (very badly). So good.

My ceremony music was chosen from movies. I had selections from Amelie and Pride & Prejudice play during the prelude and Filipino sections. For the processional, the entire wedding party and myself walked down to “Debbie” by Michael Nyman, from the film Wonderland.

Being a huge movie dork, I loved it, and everyone loved hearing music they weren’t used to.

OMG, I thought about the Forrest Gump theme, but it makes me cry like a little baby every time, which is NOT good as I’ll be crying like one even without that! So I’ve chosen the main them from Father of the Bride (hey, it’s also Alan Silvestri! He must write good wedding music). The PP who is using The theme from The Princess Bride - we thought about it (ok, I did) but I’m still not sure! We would use it for the recessional. I haven’t heard a piano version - it always sounds guitar-y to me.

@MsAnge: Where did you find a recording or arrangement for a string “Don’t Stop Believin’? I can’t find it anywhere, please share!!!

I used that song for my bridal party to walk in on. Loved it!

You bet! We had the bluegrass theme from Back to the Future III as our get-away song. It was done on fiddle and guitar and was awesome.

Also on our wedding video, the first look had the love song from the animated movie, Spirit (you know…the horse one :) ) It was so beautiful.

I also have a bride who’s exiting to one of the Indiana Jones themes.

I love the movies, they are a never-ending source of great music!

YEAH! congrats on finding the song!
We, too, had a very very difficult time finding THE right song for our processional.
My then FI, now husband, loooove Forrest Gump and by chance after watching the movie one day, realized just how much we loved this tune!
So we incorporated it into our processional for the bridesmaids and our flower girl/ring boy.
For my walk down the aisle, we used a Christian song called “Deeply in Love”, it’s a beautiful song with sweet acoustics.
As for our recessional..we used Israel’s Somewhere Over the Rainbow.
All the best :)

We were thinking of using the instrumental version of Verve’s ‘bittersweet symphony’ (from the end of crual intentions). Even though the words of the song are depressing, we like the music part!

omg, This is AWESOME! I love, love, love unexpected instrumental music at weddings. Congrats on such a fantastic choice. I got the chills just picturing, and can’t wait to see how it turns out. :)

We are incorporating “when you wish upon a star” into our wedding - either for the processional or as a song during the ceremony. My sister is going to sing it for us. Our recessional is going to be the music from Disneyland’s Main Street Electric Parade (so happy and zippy!) … I have to confess, I’m totally thinking of stealing the Forrest Gump music for the processional (my FI loves to call me “Lt. Di-Ann in his best Forrest voice).

Thanks everyone :) Im really happy with my song choice… i mean to the point that I cant wait to walk down the aisle. Before I even found my song… the church was bah! now its going to be WOW!

We used the piano theme from Legends of the Fall and the Mothersbaugh Cannon from the Royal Tananbaums for our prelude music. We actually had a couple of people ask us at the reception if they were crazy or if some of the music was from Legends of the Fall, it made me giggle :). We also used the intrumental version of Metallica’s Nothing Else Matters.

23.
BrideDIY says:

Oops I totally forgot the other movie song we used for our prelude music, the theme from The American President (one of my favorite movies and a great piece of music)!

kelley says:

It’s not quite a ‘movie’ but we’re using the song, “Ashokan Farewell” for the processional which is the theme song to Ken Burns’ Civil War Documentary (fiance and I bonded over our mutual interest in the Civil War.) It’s a song full of longing and heart and makes me weepy just listening to it alone. And for the recessional (not a movie at all) we’re using Beirut’s “Postcards from Italy’ which is very festive and celebratory!

25.
Sarah says:

We’re going to use the love theme from “Cinema Paradiso” as the processional for the wedding party. I love that movie!

Jo says:

Our first dance was to the When Harry Met Sally/Harry Connick Jr. version of “It Had to be You
‘- because I have always felt that our relationship was a bit parallel to the movie. I loved feeling that connection to the music.

also we photographed a really fun wedding in which the bride and groom did their first dance to “The Rainbow Connection.” They even had it choreographed. It was perfect for them.
