Impromptu Minimoon

June 6th, 2008 @ 8:31 am by Mrs. Bubblegum

Because weddings are so garsh darn expensive, Mr. BG and I had made the decision a while back to forego the big honeymoon for the time being. The plan is to spend a couple weeks in Paris sometime next year. In the meantime, however, we had made no plans to honeymoon. Our wedding was Saturday, and I was at work on Tuesday. Let me tell you - not a good choice. I have been a zombie for a week and cannot believe I haven’t made myself unwind.

SO, last night, Mr. BG and I planned an impromptu mini-moon for this weekend. I am SUPER excited!! We’ll be travelling up to the beeeautiful Bar Harbor Inn:

Impromptu Minimoon : wedding exeter minimoon Main In Bar Harbor Inn oceanfront rooms near Acadia National Park

The one thing that I find so so cool is that Bar Harbor is home to Cadillac Mountain. From the peak of Cadillac Mountain, you will be the first in the U.S. to see the sun rise. AND, supposedly, if you turn around, you will see the moon setting at the same time. Cameras will be brought!!

Has anyone else regretted not taking a honeymoon or minimoon right after the wedding?

We’ll be doing a mini-moon in Maine after our October wedding (we were gunning for Hawai’i, but then realized we’d rather drive a few hours than be in airports all day and spend $$$ on airfare). Will you let us know how you like the Bar Harbor Inn? It’s one of the places we’ve been eyeing!

The Bar Harbor Inn is BEAUTIFUL! I went there 2 summers ago with a girlfriend of mine and we were joking the whole time that we were on a romantic vacation together because it’s so beautiful there. They do great package deals where you get a couple of room nights, dinner for 2, a lobster bake lunch, sunset cruise, etc. I forget the name of the company that does it, but I would recommend the sunset cruise. The sailboat is huge, over 100 feet, and they tour you around the islands as the sun sets. Bring coats though! I gets cold fast!

We are going to vegas for our honeymoon but we aren’t going until 3 weeks after the wedding. I am in school and he is in his first year at a new job so Thanksgiving will give us a small break after our November 08th wedding to get away w/o missing obligations. Thank goodness for Thanksgiving being on a Thursday!

I’m taking the week after the wedding off for some time in the Russian River area - just a few hours’ drive from the Bay Area. Our big trip together (South Africa) will be in November (wedding is 3 weeks away - ack!)

Enjoy our town this weekend! Saturday’s weather looks ify, but Sunday should be sunny and warm. I recommend doing the shopping thing Saturday and the park on Sunday. Have you visited before?

I have totally stayed there before and it was great!! I was there for work in march of last year so it was pretty cold. However, it was still so beautiful and a great get away to relax for a while.

We haven’t taken a honeymoon yet (it’s been half a year) and I haven’t felt pangs of regret yet. We’d already spent so much and taken so much time off work, and we both had relatives who came across the world to be with us. Since a lot of them didn’t leave right after the wedding, it seemed spectacularly selfish for us to run off instead of showing them around! I’m happy with our decision; honeymoons aren’t the only time for vacationing.

I’ve stayed at the Bar Harbor Inn before - it’s very nice! Be sure to visit the restaurant at the top of Cadillac Mountain in Acadia Nat’l Park for the views and the fresh turnovers with homemade jam! They are both amazing. ;)

Congratulations! You have chosen a wonderful place to spend your minimoon! The Bar Harbor Inn is a very special place as you will see. Do make sure you go thru Acadia National Park - many things to see and do! If you can go to the top of Cadillac for either a sunrise or sunset you will be in for a treat - words can’t describe the beauty!

Enjoy! Make sure you tell them at the Inn that your on a minimoon!
