About Mrs. Lovebug

Every wedding evolves, from conception to execution. For us, one of the things that changed the most during planning was our wedding cake. Mr. Lovebug and I originally wanted a topsy turvy, crazy, colorsplash of a cake. Then there was the typewriter key cake phase. Then it was a stenciled cake. But after showing Mr. LB this cake in one of Mrs. Shortcake’s posts, everything we thought we knew about what we wanted flew out the bakery window.

We realized we just wanted a pretty, delicious-looking cake. That’s it. Just something simple and sweet. And when we finally saw our baker’s creation, I was so glad we’d decided that. Blush pink, dotted, and utterly adorable, it ended up fitting our “Sweetest Type of Love” theme after all - it was so “sweet” looking, it made my fillings ache:

It was our baker’s idea to perch our bride and groom lovebird cake toppers on separate levels, a la Romeo and Juliet:

And if I wasn’t having enough of a mental sugar rush looking at the cake, I only had to check out our candy buffet:

Inspired by Brother Cupcake’s wedding, I framed vintage-tinted photos of our coupled friends and family along side the “All You Need is Love!” sign - those included got a kick out of seeing themselves “featured” on the table.

Being the control freak that I was, I had actually done a “trial run” setting up all the jars and candy beforehand, just to see how it would look. But it’s one thing to see it jammed across your dark granite countertop; it’s something else entirely to see it in a reception room full of light and flowery goodness.

We had 16 kinds of candy, including white chocolate-covered gummi bears and some sour treats, as well as old-fashioned goodies like watermelon rock candy and licorice wheels. It was (as candy always is) a huge hit, and my girlfriends “awww”-ed dutifully over the sealed-with-a-kiss bag stickers:

Being true to his orders to “document the hell out of the details”, Chris even took photos of all the individual candies, like these mouthwatering shots:

When he first glanced at these pink grapefruit slices, Chris told me to hold up one of the “heart” candies for a quick photo. I’m all, “Umm, what heart candies? Those are triangles, you silly photographer.” Not to worry! You want heart-shaped, I’ll give ya heart-shaped:

(Icky pre-makeup Lovebug)

I wasn’t there every time a guest encountered our “Wish Paper Basket” guest book, but all indications are that they understood it:

When we finally got back to our room that night, our basket was waiting for us, filled to the brim. But when we started de-crumpling and reading wishes to each other, it was actually something of a bummer. Several of the longer-married couples had written stuff like Marriage is hard. Marriage is a ton of work. Marriage is miserable. Ok, maybe not. But they were so many along those lines, it was starting to depress us. So chucked the lot of them aside, and decided to read the rest on our one year anniversary. :)

The final detail I have to share is something I actually didn’t complete: our card box. I had this last-minute, harebrained idea to papier-mache a mini cardboard suitcase with pages from “Bad Bridesmaid”, a book Mrs. Bee had sent me last year. Well, apparently I need to repeat kindergarten, because my papier-mache efforts were disastrous.

So what did I do? I busted out the Xyron, of course! Only, it turned into a colossal project - tearing up dozens and dozens of pages and running them through the sticker-maker. And…I didn’t finish. :( I was literally inches away from completion, but I ran out of Xyron adhesive, and I had reached complete DIY burnout. Even a quick trip to Michael’s was beyond me. I was done. Thus, it wasn’t quite ready for its closeup:

I know, I know. I should have just toughed it out and completed the thing. But luckily, the box filled up pretty quickly, covering the unfinished part of it.

And that, my dear hivers, completes our journey through the land of Lovebug wedding details! From here, I’m sorry to say, posts will take a major header into the arenas of excessive alcohol consumption, dance moves that haven’t been seen in the better part of a decade (for good reason), and a bouquet toss that makes the UFC look like a playground scuffle.

And for those waiting for my ring exchange dialogue, I promise promise promise to get it up this weekend. :)

I love the wish paper basket idea - too bad it was such a downer to read. I’m sure they’ll be even more meaningful on your one-year anniversary.

White chocolate covered gummi bears?! Yummm!!

Can I also ask a question? It’s a bit late, but I noticed that you had a bouquet for the ceremony and no bridal party. What did you do with the bouquet when you were standing up at the altar?

Since I’ll have no bridesmaid to hand it to I don’t know what I’ll do with it, and at which point?

And if anyone else has been in the same situation, please pipe up!

Keep the posts coming…it’s like opening up a trashy romance novel (you can’t just stop reading it) minus the raunchy details and a shirtless Fabio.

Seeing how thorough Mrs. Lovebug is, there just *might* have been a shirtless Fabio. We still haven’t seen the reception pictures. ;)

Elaine and Miss Teacup: Rain’s End, on Etsy; just clicky the linky in the post.

Sara: That was also my MIL’s great concern. It’s really a non problem though - I just made sure one of my close girlfriends was sitting in the front row. At the cue from our officiant, I turned and handed it off. No worries!

twelvetigers: omg, just spoil it for everyone why don’t you.

Mrs. E! Hey stranger! Great to see ya, and thanks.

Thanks to everyone, of course. :)

the pictures are lovely, but I feel bad that you got such strangely semi-negative guest basket notes. I thought I’d give you one of the nicest we received. It was from my Aunt Beth, who has been married to my uncle for over thirty years. They had been dating since they were 14, but still have that spark:
“Always remember that neither one of you is right or wrong. You are both simply opinionated. Remember that the love of your life is a gift, so don’t take them for granted, and your life will be absolutely lovely. I can say that from experience. And one more thing… every time you say good-bye, always kiss for at least 10 seconds.”
