Blonde, Brunette, or Redhead?

June 8th, 2008 @ 10:28 am by Mrs. Pomegranate

My hair color has gone under a transformation in the past few years. I’ve been pretty happy with my blonde tresses for the past few months, but I’m still unsure about what color I want to wear on my wedding day. I’m a hair color chameleon - all three in variations look alright on me, so I can be flexible.

Please excuse the fuzzy cameraphone picture.

Brunette Pomegranate

MOH (on left), Blonde Bridesmaid (center) and I (on right) the night I met my Mr. Pomegranate.

Redhead Pomegranate

Which do you think looks best?

You are so lucky you look great in all three! JMO, but I think you look best as a blonde, glancing over the pics posted it definitely looked the most natural. Good luck deciding. :)

hi! I’m a hairstylist near Chicago, just thought I’d send you my professional opinion. You have the skin tone to look great in all three! My personal favorite is the red. BUT…I wouldn’t do it for the wedding. They say everyone’s most flattering hair color is that of when they were 5 years old. I could be wrong, but my guess for that for you is blonde. It depends on what your wedding style is. If you’re going for chic and trendy, i’d do red. if you’re going for soft and romantic, i’d do blonde. But not just any blonde. I’d do blonde with hints of caramels and strawberry blondes. That would be my choice!

I totally agree with everything Anna said above! I personally think you make a fabulous redhead but you should go with the haircolor that makes you feel most like you. When you look back on you wedding pictures 20 years from now, what haircolor do you think you’ll most connect with? I think if you choose to go blonde or brunette, I would definitely consider working in the warmer, reddish tones with highlights & lowlights. Like Anna said, strawberry blonde & caramel tones with the blonde. And auburns & caramels with the brunette. I love a girl who isn’t afraid of hair color!

I agree - the red is great (I’m a redhead, so am slightly biased), but the blonde looks very soft and feminine.

Oh, I would do the red for sure! My favorite photos of brides are always those who have soft makeup and red hair, it just looks so romantic!

I guess I’ll throw out the oddball opinion here. I think you look great in all 3, but I like you best as a brunette. You look most naturally beautiful and it really highlights your great facial features. I feel like you get a little washed out in the blonde. Just my opinion.

I agree with Anna! I think the brunette color is great but makes you look too pale. It would call for heavier eye makeup on the day of and your eyes are so pretty that would be a shame. But…I do love me your redhead look something fierce! It’s stunning!

You look great in RED! more alive… brunette is a close second. I do agree with Michelle…a little washed out as a blonde…but only if I picture it with a white wedding gown.

All 3 look good.

I vote brunette — because your blue eyes look so BLUE against the brown hair, they really shine compared to the other pictures.

I like the brunette best as well, its the most natural looking, and it brings out your facial features. With the other options, you look beautiful, but I could tell in an instant it wasn’t your natural color… for something as lasting as your wedding pictures, you want to look back and now that it represents a lasting version of you.

I’m going to vote red too. But a more muted/subtle red.

I’ve been all three before too but for my own wedding I decided to be similar to my natural color (brunette) but a lighter, warmer color with some blonde highlights. I have two younger sisters and we all look very alike and I didn’t want to stick out like a sore thumb next to them in pictures. I mean I’m going to have these pictures for the rest of my life and I can’t change my hair color in them. I have very fair skin too and there are some wedding album pictures in my blog if you are interested.

HTH!

I like all three. The red is stunning with your eye color and fair skin. But, I vote for brunette. I think it would be kind of cute since that’s how you first met Mr. Pomegranate. :)

Blonde, definitely — or a strawberry blonde. I do not think the brunette is nearly as flattering.

I think the blonde and red look best, but ultimately the blonde seems most natural on you.

Regardless of what you like and the fact that you regularly experiment with hair color and feel comfortable in any of the three colors, I think you’ll be happiest both on that day and long term if you go with what is natural to you. Certainly you can highlight or play with the shade, but if you’re a natural blonde stick with blonde or the red or brunette as applicable. I’m guessing you’re naturally blonde…it looks incredible on you!

Wow, so many different opinions! I love the red, but agree that the blonde looks most natural, so you should probably go with that for the wedding. But definitely keep the red in mind for the future!

@Anna: I like the idea of the most flattering hair color being the one you had when you were 5 years old. It’s probably pretty true!

@Miss Cherry Pie: I was a dirty blonde when I was younger and it has darkened with age. Although, I must admit it’s been AGES since I’ve had a head full of my natural hair color! My Dad has red hair, so that may be why I’ve been able to try all three colors.

As someone who dyed her hair six months before her wedding myself, I am glad you’re not afraid to go to your roots or your five-year-old self, etc. :-) I am still glad a year later that I went natural, as I didn’t know how I would feel about platinum blonde hair 20 years down the road…maybe that’s a consideration for you, too.

The red is SMOKIN–you look great in it. I like Anna’s advice, too, though about the tone of your wedding being a consideration. GOOD LUCK!!! Let us know what you decide!

I would have to agree with many that red looks amazing on you, but not for your wedding day…it doesn’t look as natural as the others, and you really don’t want people to look at your wedding pictures ten years down the line, twenty years, and all they say is “WOW, your hair is RED!”

You can definitely rock that red hair!! I think it would actually be cool to see the red hair when you look back on your photos. It’ll even remind you of how you came to this “hair decision”. Plus, who’s to say that you won’t still be sporting the red ‘do later on??

The red is my fave (so striking!) but ultimately, you should pick the color which makes you feel vibrant/sexy/alive. The camera will capture the look in your eyes, and it won’t matter what color your hair is except that it made you feel so wonderful.

You look very striking as a brunette and as a redhead in the pictures.

(If you go red, you may want to also take into account what colors you decide to go with for your wedding. Minor detail but you may not want to clash with your colors. If you decide to be a blonde or a brunette I don’t think that would be much of an issue)

You are right, you can pull off all of the colors but I think the blonde hair on you looks great with your skin tone (especially under those flourescent lights in the bathroom) ;)

My favorite is the red! Few people can pull of the color and you make it look fabulous.

I love how the brunette brings out your eyes, but it also makes your skin look paler than the other two colors. The poor bathroom lighting quality makes it hard to judge the blonde.

I think you should go with close to your natural color. I too have had all 3 hair colors and am going back to natural with some highlights to brighten it up a bit because I know when I look back on it in pictures and things I will look the most like me.

You really can’t go wrong with any of the three but, assuming it wouldn’t “clash” with your colors, I vote RED. I would think about a red that’s a shade of two lighter… like the red a five year old girl might have??

Keep in mind, my opinion may be jaded by SEVERE hair envy! ;)

Unfortunately for me, my natural haircolor from birth through age five and beyond is drab mouse brown. :( After being everything from Gwen Stefani blonde to dark ash, I went back close to my real brown color with highlights for my wedding (partially as a result of a disasterous experiment with dark brown ;) ). It worked with the wedding look, but I shortly thereafter started creeping back to blonde.

Even though I look younger with more brunette hair, I feel more “me” as a blond, so ultimately I think you should go with whatever feels like the best expression of yourself on that day.

I am going to have to say red, as that’s what I’m going with! I have been blonde my whole life and went red just overt a year ago. Most of my extended family has been grumbling about wanting me to go blonde for the wedding, but I just feel so FUN as a redhead, and the hubby to be loves it. While it may not last forever, and I may look back at my wedding pictures and laugh at my bright red hair, that is the life-stage I am in, and that is the life-stage I am getting married in. I hope I’ll always look back and remember all the fun I’m having, and how vibrant it feels, even if I (hopefully) have enough taste not to be redheaded and middle-aged…
