Trying to plan a wedding in a new city, not to mention a new country, is tough, but the fact that we can get legally married here more than makes up for it! The wedding will be an opportunity for most of our family and friends to see our new city for the first time so it will be both a wedding and a reunion. Besides my future wife, I am also madly in love with a good bargain, Swedish pastries, Tivo, and my two dogs and calico cat (in no particular order).

Is Less More?

June 9th, 2008 @ 2:48 pm by Mrs. Gingerbread

In addition to scoring the shirts, shoes and ties for Miss GB 2.0 on our trip to Socal for our shower, I also found my wedding jewelry. Actually, I should say it was Miss GB 2.0 who found it. I’d been to several department stores without her and had no luck. Then when we were together in Nordstrom Rack, Miss GB 2.0 spotted these babies.

They have the vintage look that I wanted aaaand they were marked down from $58 to $23.97! That’s almost 60% off :) Sold!

Here’s what they look like on. Please excuse the fact that I am not wearing my dress or any makeup, etc. I am sure this random shot is enough to give you the general idea.

I’m really impressed that she spotted exactly what I was looking for. It’s not like we share the same taste in jewelry, with the exception of our rings. Her preference for jewelery looks more like this. I guess she knows me or something.

Originally, I’d wanted to wear a necklace, but my mom and my oldest friend (that I’ve know since the second grade) both had strong opinions that a necklace would compete with the dress.

I also had fantasies about a bracelet like Mrs. Petunia wore, but I think it would look weird with my “something old and blue” ring and I don’t think I’d want to wear it on my left wrist because then it would be competing with my wedding ring.

So it looks like I am going to stick with just the earrings and a ring on each hand. My budget is happy that I didn’t spend very much. What are you doing for your wedding jewelry?

The necklace I wore for my wedding was from the Nordstrom Crystal collection! But I didn’t get as great a deal as you. :) Looks great!

YAY Nordy’s Rack! LOVE that place :)
Moving on… love your earings and I think you could wear a necklace as long a it was very delicate, like a single charm or solitaire on a delicate chain.

Excellent find! They will look really good with your dress. I like the size of them, too.

I agree that a necklace may be too much for your lace dress. But maybe I’m biased, because I’m leaning towards not wearing a necklace. ;)

i was going to wear ONLY stud earrings when my husband surprised with a beautidul and simple bracelet. i don’t think you need a necklace, especially not with the lovely earrings!

Those earrings are great and you wouldn’t even know that you got them ” on the cheap”! You definitely don’t need a necklace with those and the lace detail in the dress. My cheap-o purchase was my shoes for $20, YAY!

I love your earrings- and your entries. You and Miss GB 2.0 remind me a lot of my mom and her partner. My mom is not the jewelry type, but she always manages to find the perfect piece of jewelry for her partner. So that’s what she gets her…for every anniversary… Maybe you have a lot of jewelry in your future?

@taytayalis: What a sweet comment :) I actually have received gifts of jewelry from Miss GB 2.0 on several occassions. She does such a great job every time.

Love them! If I was wearing earrings they are exactly what I would get!! Since my dress is so simple I custom ordered a necklace from an etsy seller so it would give me some color and flair. So no earrings.

i <3 your earrings….they are definitely my style…i’d wear those too!

i have no idea what i’m wearing for wedding jewlery. my first option that i ordered was a dissapointment. i’m shipping it back tomorrow for a refund. back to the drawing board.

i think i’m going to stick to stores from here on out with my jewelry. there is seems to be much leeway with what appears online and what you actually receive.

Your earrings are perfect. They hit your jaw in just the right place and really accent your bone structure.

Good job GB2.0!

Love the earrings - quite a steal from the Rack… I went in randomly a couple of weeks ago and found fun umbrellas for shower gifts *and* neutrogena tanning lotion. Score!

We were lucky on the jewelry front - the boutique where I bought my dress also makes vintage inspired jewelry, so I was able to pick out the necklace and earrings while in the dress, which was so incredibly helpful as the dress has some detailing that would potentially compete with a lot of jewelry. Definitely agree that less is more!

hehe- want to let me borrow those earrings for my ’something borrowed’? I ordered some from Etsy but I think they’re too dark and you won’t be able to see through my hair! Not sure what all the jewelry will be, can’t be too much or it will compete with the birdcage veil, dress, ring, etc! eeps!

Miss Gingerbread says:

@Thea T: Of course you can borrow them! Try them out when you come up here. It’s taking me everything in my power not to order an etsy flower for my hair or a bird cage veil. Who knew I’d get into the spirit of bridal dress up?!
