My Mom Rocks

June 9th, 2008 @ 1:18 pm by Mrs. Coconut

So you know what the others are wearing, but I forgot about my mom! A few weeks ago, I spent some torturous time at the mall looking for my mother’s outfit. She gave me total decision-making authority, and you know how Miss Coconut loves that!

I’m not going to lie, it was brutal. Lots of the dresses were just terrible. Full of sequins and glittery material. My mother doesn’t work at the Golden Nugget! Not to mention finding something at a reasonable price?!?! I mean, seriously! After much searching at Dillard’s no less, I found a blush two piece number that I thought would look great on my mom. The price? $72. Oh yeah.

I know that lots of moms don’t want to look like “moms” and I can respect that. For me though, I love a tailored jacket. I think it looks really classic. My mom’s outfit has a jacket, but it’s not a plain one - the cuffs are really cute and there’s a tiny bit of sparkle.

Doesn’t she look great? I think the color looks perfect with her dark hair! The dress needs to be hemmed a tiny bit, but other than that it ROCKS!

A close-up of the jacket. She’s going to wear pearls like below and I really think the wide cuffs spruce it up, don’t ya think?

My mom tends to heat up, so the jacket can be removed to reveal a very classic two piece dress. I think she looks AMAZING! She was so impressed (nay relieved!) that I found this for $72!

To the hive, has it been a challenge to find great, affordable dresses for your mom?!?

My mom is hard to fit, so she actually bought the dress well in advance of the engagement! She found something and called to ask what I thought my eventual wedding colors would be and coordinated from there. When she called, I hadn’t thought of wedding colors so picked my favorite. Thankfully, we’ve not changed our minds about that!

I own a dress very similar to that one (it was originally a bridesmaid dress at that). I love it, and I’ve been able to wear it a few times since purchasing it!

Your mom looks great!

Ohh… looks great! Love that color.

My mom had a similarly horrendous time trying to find a dress. There’s just so much ugly out there. We looked *everywhere* and were just about to give up and order a Watters BM dress/jacket… when my mom found “the dress” at JCPenny’s when she went to get towels or something. It was even on a super sale, so she got it for a fraction of the other outfits we were looking at.

I love the colour of your mom`s dress, it suits her perfectly.

My mom is a seamstress and she`s making her dress… as a matter of fact, her company specializes in MOB dresses. She`s also making for 2 of my aunts, 1 cousin and both flower girls. She`ll be really busy. The good thing is I don`t have to spend an arm and a leg for alternations for my dress.

I looooooooooove me some tailored jackets. And the cuffs are great on that one! It’s also such a lovely color :-)

My mom doesn’t do dresses. She’s a bit overweight and has never felt comfortable in a dress. So this winter when Lane Bryant and Roman’s bring out their holiday wear (which always include outfits with pants!) she’s going to pick hers out then. While I would love to put my mom in something like what your mom has, it’s most important for me that she feels comfortable and like herself!

Your mom looks gorgeous! Love the color! Picking an outfit for my mom was a nightmare..she is very self-concious about the fact she’s overweight and that made finding something really hard..she looks beautiful in the end though!
