Mrs. Magnolia's Picture
Miss Magnolia, Atlanta Age and Occupation: 28, Public Affairs and Government Relations Fiance's Age and Occupation: 28, Lobbyist Engagement Date: December 1, 2006 Wedding Date: January, 2008 Blogging Since: September 6, 2007 Venue: catherdral ceremony/private club reception About Me: Mr. Magnolia and I are thrilled to be planning an evening, winter wedding for 200 people in Atlanta. We both work in politics and share a love of University of Georgia football, pop culture, and good food! I'm a runner who adores wedding magazines, bad reality television, and a good glass of wine. Most of the time I like to think I'm pretty organized, but between wedding planning, house hunting, and a full-time job, I'm being put to the test!
About Mrs. Magnolia

Hey hey! The Magnolias are here!

Y’all. We weren’t introduced at our reception until after 10:00 pm. It was so late, and we truly had no idea. I felt really bad - we actually missed people who had to get home to their babysitters - yikes.

(I love that Mr. Magnolia looks so surprised here, like “Hey! What’s everyone doing here?!?”

Our amazing band, Kingsized, learned both our first dance song, God Only Knows by the Beach Boys, and our Father-Daughter dance song. We selected God Only Knows for a few reasons:

1. We love the tv show Big Love, and it’s the theme song.
2. The night we got engaged, we heard that song no less than five times on an ebay commercial.
3. Well, it’s just a really sweet song.

Mr. Magnolia truly hates any form of attention, so he was dreading the first dance with every fiber of his being. Therefore, we opted for the “middle school stand and sway” rather than take dance lessons and actually prepare something.

But then! That crafty guy, he surprised me with a dip!

My dad and I danced to Little Miss Magic by Jimmy Buffett. My dad, a stoic, conservative businessman, has been a Parrothead for as long as I can remember. Jimmy Buffett has a daughter who’s exactly one month older than me, and he wrote Little Miss Magic for her when she was a baby. My dad used to sing it to me when I was a little girl, so it was a foregone conclusion that this would be our song.

…while my mom sang along. “Your mother is the only other woman for me…little miss magic, what you gonna be?”

Clearly, something was funny…

…and also, very emotional.

ooo! Savannah Buffet (Jimmy’s daughter) went to my high school - an arts magnet. He used to do all sort of benefit concerts for us until she was kicked out, bummer.

I think this is the first time I have noticed your hairpiece, love it :)

Love “Little Miss Magic”! My brother sings it to my niece…so cute. And nicely ties in with the Beach Boys. How fun!

@just sayin’: just sayin’, our Catholic ceremony started at 7:30 pm - this was the only evening option at the Cathedral. It finished up around 8:30, and we spent 15 minutes taking family photos at the church. The reception was about five miles away, but traffic in Atlanta (even on a Saturday night!) is always a beast. It took us a good thirty minutes to get there. We took pictures outside the reception for 20 minutes or so, and then grabbed a quick bite to eat by ourselves before our introduction.

Honestly, we were as shocked as anyone that it was already 10 pm - we never intended to arrive at our reception that late. However, things don’t always go exactly as planned. I don’t necessarily think that we were rude to our guests.

Using the word “rude” is a bit harsh! If I went to a wedding that started at 7:30, I’d probably plan on it being a late night and plan accordingly.
