About Mrs. Gingerbread

It all started with the cake. The Swedish Princess cake is traditionally light green. This cake was one of our first decisions. Then came the dress, which was the first one that I tried on and it just happened to have light green sash. A colour theme started developing. Then we chose the ceremony site that was really, really green. Somehow brown entered the picture. Maybe it was the brown branches? Man, am I really that literal?

When it came to the reception, I really wanted to bring in some colour. The room is very elegant, but it could really use a pop of colour, don’t you think?

I decided on red, pink and orange flowers for our centrepieces and for our bouquets.

So there you have it. How did you develop your wedding colour scheme?

Haha, we started with the cake too! Well, it’s not actually a cake, but a french croquembouche, which is a tower of creme puffs. But the caramel-y goodness was the first thing we picked out, so gold entered the picture and was reinforced by the buttercream walls of our reception hall. …and so on. Since we ended up with a brown/gold thing happening, I also chose to break it up with the flowers.

You’re color scheme looks beautiful - and so, so classy! Isn’t it so much easier to work with what you like than force your decisions into a pre-arrange pallet?

I think your wedding colors are gorgeous! I can’t wait to see how it all turns out. we went through a couple of different wedding color ideas, but eventually went with what would go best with our reception site (yellows, pinks, peaches in all different shades). Luckily they’re colors very fitting the fun, summer vibe we’re going for.

Your colors are lovely! And I really do think it is best to key on one inspiration for the color scheme, whether it’s a cake, a favorite flower, the venue, the vibe, etc. I’m planning to do tropical brights since the wedding will be in the Florida Keys– hot pink, lime and orange. The hot pink makes me think of orchids and bougainvilleas, and the other two are citrus colors. Plus I just love color!

I keep changing and at this point I am still undecided. At first I was set on pale blue and poppy red and the more wedding related blogs, magazine and such that I look at it it continues to change.

@Erin: I like that it was a natural evolution. Otherwise I think it would have made me crazy. Dessert is always a great place to start :)

@sillyinphilly: Thanks! Your colours sound really lovely and summery.

@lulubelle: Thank you :) I’m not normally a big hot pink fan, but I love it for weddings!

@My: I love pale blue. I am surprised that blue is no where in our wedding. Oh well :)

The colors for our fall wedding came from our engagement location - an apple orchard. We wanted something w/a sophisticated vibe so we are using dark red, ivory and chocolate brown.

Yay! I am having the princess cake too (I’m half Swedish)! Obviously a green princess cake would not go so well w/our scheme so we are choosing to leave the marzipan in its natural color (ivory - almondish color). It will also have a couple of small dark red apples to accent.

Originally I thought we would have more tropical colors, since we are getting married in Hawaii and all. Well we chose to get married at Byodo-In Temple, which is a red Japanese temple. Yes, red. So that was it, our main color would be red. We’re going to accent it with lil’ splashes of fuchsia. Although I considered gray, and black at one time.

GB, we’ll be sort-of cake twins.

As you may have heard me talk about, we picked our cake out from the bakery near the apt where we were staying in Italy about days before the wedding.

“Buongiourno! That raspberry and whipped cream cake looks delicioso. We’ll pick one up Saturday. Ciao!” (We only had 16 people at the wedding and we had to transport the cake ourselves to the little town nearby where we were marrying.)

When mr beanchar went to pick it up, not only had the kind ladies at the bakery given us TWO cakes– because they wanted to make sure we had enough– but they had for some reason frosted it in a pale, pale green shade.

Both my accessories and bouquet were predominently green, so the cake “matching” was just a little bit of wedding magic, I guess. :)

@monstorb: Cool! I’m half Swedish too :) Your colours sound really pretty. I love dark red. It’ll be so striking!

@nejireta: Wow, the red temple sounds awesome! I just popped over to your website and I love the passport Save the Dates. Oh and I now I just saw the temple. It’s gorgeous!!!

Your reception room looks awesome - I think the colors will be perfect in there. And you’ve got some shade of blue right outside the window! :-D

I semi-designed my dress (with elements from the dress designer’s other dresses) and just picked my favorite colors to incorporate into the dress (dark shades of purple, red, and teal). The BMs’ dresses are red or purple (2 of each), and the flowers will be mostly those colors, so the teal will be sort of an accent color. Trying to find some more teal!

I started with my one attendant. We went dress shopping and bought the dress she looked most fabulous in- VOILA! Instant color scheme.

Heehee, I didn’t really have one, but I am a sucker for soft greens, so for the few things where I did have to pick something, it was generally green. The flowers ended up being yellow and white with plenty of greenery for versitality since my MOH didn’t pick her outfit until quite late, even though there were a few colour options discussed (she ended up in brown.0

I found tablecloth material for $0.25 a yard…that happened to match my two favorite flowers blue agapanthas and periwinkle hydrangeas. Blue is also the groom’s favorite color. Hello, color scheme!
