Something Lost

June 12th, 2008 @ 9:28 am by Mrs. Tiramisu

Something blue. Check. Shoes and garter.

Something old. Check. My Nana is graciously letting me take a piece of lace off of her wedding gown to wrap around my bouquet.

Something new. Check. Take your pick… dress, bracelet, veil, shoes…

Something borrowed. Check. Make that something lost! My friend L. called me this week to tell me that the perfect and beautiful chandelier earrings that she wore on her wedding day- and generously offered to let me wear on mine- have gone missing! Somewhere in Pennsylvania is a box with her wedding shoes, headpiece, and earrings, and no one can locate it.

Sniff, sniff… here they are:
Something Lost : wedding jewelry maine Somethi
They are actually still available for purchase- the Saratoga chandelier earrings from Perfect Details- but sadly there is not enough money left in the Miss Tiramisu accessories budget for these $170 babies.

Here’s L. sporting them while goofing off in the limo on her wedding day:Something Lost : wedding jewelry maine Leeeari
There’s a chance they might still turn up, but in the meantime I’ve been scouting out some other options. The blog The Notebook recently ran a giveaway featuring these by A. Jaron:
Something Lost : wedding jewelry maine Ajaron
which I entered but sadly did not win. Pricetag: $275 = moving in the wrong direction.

My step-mom suggested the option of renting jewelry. I didn’t know that the idea of rentals had expanded from designer handbags into the jewelry arena. (Don’t get grossed out- they sterilize earrings in between borrowers.)

So I checked out Bag, Borrow, Or Steal. My heart went pitter-patter when I spotted these earrings by Vera Wang (note that I named it “Vera Want” by accident when I right-click-saved this photo):

Unfortunately, as a non-member, these Akoya pearl and diamond lovelies would run you $70 a week ($20 less if you are a member) to rent- and that’s if you make it off of the waitlist for them. That seemed a little steep to me (and without a guarantee of them becoming available), but it’s not a bad option to consider- and bonus! they’d still be borrowed.

In the available for Tiramisu purchase and so, ahem, not-real diamond, category we have these by Carolee:
Something Lost : wedding jewelry maine Picture0126At $45 these are the current front-runners- what do you think?

Faux yet glam diamond and pearl chandelier earrings for a reasonable price. Do they exist? Help me out hive!

I have found some very fun and sometimes glam earrings at H&M and even Target. Another place I’ve had some good finds is Forever 21 (I’m well past 21 these days but still find good things in there, even if I look like an intruder amongst the younger trendier chickadees!) You might not find a future heirloom at these places but you might find what you’re looking for! (of course I hope your friend finds her earrings - that would be faboo!) Good luck!

Eve’s Addiction has some CZ and pearl earrings:

They’re really reasonable — I ordered bridesmaid jewelry from them. Google for coupons, they have them all the time.

Have you tried White Aisle? or Anna Bellagio? They have some great, affordable options.

Try overstockjeweler.com (20% off sale now, too) for nice knock-offs, and overstock.com for real designer jewelry discounted.

I actually think the last one are the best ones: much more original than all the others combined!

What a cool idea to have your something borrowed be from a rental place! Pity it isn’t working out for you but nice idea to share here :)

Have you tried Sorrelli jewelry in the white bridal color? Their prices are very reasonable and I think they are a bit more unique than some other options out there.

http://www.sorrelli.com
Click on “colors” on the left hand side and on page 2 click on white bridal. Then choose “show jewelry in this color”. Starting on page 4 the earrings begin. The options go through page 9. Hope this is useful to someone. I’m going with the toated almond color myself since I’m wearing ivory.

Have to agree with a few other posters… the Carolee earrings are my favorite. Beautiful and unique. I found my earrings at Nordstrom (online or in-store). The Nadri line has a lot of options with many unique styles.

I agree with SKH. They look great and I like the design.
And to be perfectly honest…looking at all of those choices, I couldn’t tell you which is real and which isn’t. (And I am looking at them from a close up picture.) Do you really think anyone else at your wedding will?

I LOVE the last ones. I think they are beautiful, simple and elegant. I say go for it - they LOOK pricey even if they aren’t!

I love the last ones, but if you do go the Bag, Borrow or Steal route I highly recommend them. I borrowed a purse that I was interested in buying for a couple of months to make sure I liked it, since it was a huge purchase. After I borrowed it for three months, I actually bought it from them. It was great! Good Luck.

There are these: http://www.overstockjeweler.com/fred-leighton-inspired-sterling-silver-cz-pave-4mm-freshwater-pearl-chandelier-earrings-p-2883.html?osCsid=3718b5517bbea104459ac7d73d92f452

but really that website has TONS of beautiful stuff inspired by people like Vera Wang and Harry Winston.
