A Canadian Mother of the Bride

jun08 512After my photo indulgent dress session with my mom at Nordstrom, she seemed to have caught the camera-in-the-dressing-room-bug because she took me by surprise with an email a few days later with several image attachments that chronicled her own personal dress shopping adventure in Canada.

I asked her if she tried out Bryan’s, a store in every mall I’d ever been to that I once thought was on the older-woman-oriented side of things (think 2 piece skirt/jacket outfits with shoulder pads); in college I realized they had young, flattering, and affordable dresses. They’d either a) changed their product lines drastically to appeal to a wider audience b) I’d grown up or c) it’s not the 80’s anymore and heavily sequined blouses are hard to find most anyplace. She said she didn’t set foot into Bryan’s, but instead found a few things she liked at some high end older women stores at the admittedly grey-haired mall.

I visited my parents this weekend and took my mom into Bryan’s where we found her “mother of the bride” dress! Mission accomplished! Turns out she thought Bryan’s was a plus sized store all this time, so I guess we both had preconceived notions about the shop! There’s a mini-peek of “the dress” in that mirror shot on the right. Getting this dress was a great kick in the pants for me to finally decide on a bridesmaid dress. Black and white all around baby! The photo below just shows how fun and crazy my mom is. She’s like a mini thing chock full of energy. My dad calls her “a real firecracker.”

I think Bryans has changed their lines in the past few years as I find myself going there a lot more often now to look for dresses. As a tutor, I also know lots of my students got their prom dresses there, so it’s not just me growing up haha. Sadly, there aren’t many Bryans around anymore. Only a handful left.

Your parents are really cute. And that’s a great MOB dress, very anti-frump.

Mama Milkshake is ADORABLE.

Love the bust-adjustments— she looks like she’s practicing her funky chicken for gettin’ down at the wedding! ;)
