Zap ‘Em Away

June 13th, 2008 @ 4:10 pm by Mrs. Flamingo

I won a free skin analysis a month ago and even though I am only 25, I can say I was scared of what I saw - an image of me at 50 and it wasn’t pretty. I didn’t used to wash my fash regularly but because of that and the great help of the specialist, I am proud to say that I wash, tonic and cream my face every day, plus I exfoliate once a week. I have seen a remarkable difference, and it’s true - once you get the hang of it, you don’t want to stop.

Though I rarely have breakouts, in the last 3 days I’ve had 3 pimples. I blame the wedding for that!

What are your best miracle pimple zappers? Have you gotten some pimple appearances because of wedding stress?

I still use old fashioned Clearasil when I want to dry out a zit, same formulation I’ve used since I was a teenager (sulfur? wha…?) plus it draws the deeps ones to the surface where I can pop ‘em which is so much fun, heh heh.

I sorta do Clinique three step, but with L’Oreal Future-e moisturizer. I like the solid bar for how clean it rinses.

I am actually a Proactiv user. I gave up on it a few times, but this last round back in November I decided to stick with it, and now my skin is as clear as it was in high school.

While not specifically designed to zap pimples, I find Philosophy Microdelivery Mini Peel Pads to be an instant skin-clearer. I use them every other night because they’re really powerful. I even use them on my chest and back for body breakouts!

I am a proactiv user also!

For emergencies, I squeeze it out (~~hate to tell this~~) and cover it with neosporin or triple antibiotic. They really seem to disappear overnight for me.

My skin has been HATING this heat wave. I’m washing ti several times a day and it’s still bumpy and awful. Maybe time to try Shortcake-approved Ponds Cream??

And did we just get a new-bee sneak preview upthread???? ;)

I’m with ya, beanchar… who’s this mysterious watermelon character? :-D

Also, ladies, I’m a total sucker for Shortie and I’ve been using the Ponds cold cream for about a month now. My skin has never looked this good. Even with gross heat and humidity. It took a little time for my face to adjust, but now… my husband will not stop saying how good my face looks.

proactiv made my skin worse. i stuck with it through the first package but halfway through the second one, i gave up. it gave me huge under the skin zits (which i’d never had before) that hurt so bad, i just couldn’t bring myself to use it anymore. :(

my favorite remedy is just plain old benzoyl peroxide (5 or 10% seem to work best). dab it on the zitters at night and it dries them out. and like kathy, if a zit has a head on it, i pop it (i know, it’s bad) and put some neosporin on it…that seems to work fine.

good luck! i feel like i’m always battling with my skin, so my wedding day was no exception. =/

Miss Watermelon is our Wiki Intern - she was announced late May.

Thanks for the Philosophy tip Miss W! I’ll have to try those. :)

I had to pick up emergency zit stuff days before my wedding… went into Sephora and said to the consultant “I’m getting married on Saturday and I have these (pointed to my face). What can you give me?” :) I bought a DDF Sulfur Therapeutic Mask and used it as a spot treatment for a few days. Was very happy with the results.

Stress always gives me a honker or two!! I wash my face every day (switching around a lot but now on Aveeno foaming) and put on Oxy 10 (you’re apparently supposed to put on acne cream as a preventative as well!) and for really bad ones, I just constantly apply Oxy every couple hours - seems to do the trick!

toothpaste! it works the best. it dries out your skin, and can stop blemishes that you can feel about to form from becoming an issue to begin with. it also speeds up the process and makes pimples go down faster/or scabs heal quicker. if your skin is sensitive don’t put on too much, you should feel a tingle, but not burning. if it burns wipe some off. keep it on your skin for as long as possible to get the best results.

I love Philosophy “On a Clear Day” Blemish serum - it works great - pricey - but I think worth it!

has anyone ever tried zeno? i’ve been seen a lot of ads lately, but don’t know whether or not to invest in it as it is a bit pricey

Hi Miss Flamingo,

I’m not sure how to private message you and I know your wedding is soon so this might be a tad too late, but I found on etsy a chandelier wall decal and thought you would love it.

I’ve got a Zeno. It only works on new ‘angry red’ spots (the ones you feel coming and hurting for a day or so before they get back - not whiteheads) but it does seem to speed the process up by a couple of days. It’s really only useful if you get those kind of sore spots that don’t come to a head, but if that’s what you’re battling with I’d recommend it.

Patty says:

I too tried the zeno and found it only works on those you can feel “coming on”. Even then I’m not sure it was 100% effective.

I recently tried using Suki products which are 100% natural with no synthetic products. As the saleswoman explained “Why would you put anything on your face that you wouldn’t put in your body?” Good point.

After having tried E-V-E-R-Y product out there, this has had amazing results. The only problem is, you’ll want to eat them as the sugar scrub is lemony heavenly. Yes they’re somewhat expensive, but you use such a small amount of product that you can stretch everything out for a while. Here are some more reviews: http://www.megsmakeup.com/index.php?p=92

I buy my products at a local skin-care store, but I noticed the whole line of Suki products is available off of amazon.

i’m also a proactiv user, and the product i like best is the sulfur-based mask as a spot treatment.

my husband uses polysporin on his, and it does seem to work.
