Personal Style Guide? Yes, Please!

June 15th, 2008 @ 3:33 pm by Miss Cupcake

It may be early to start thinking about what I’ll be wearing during our honeymoon in Antigua (since it’s not for another 3+ months), but when we head to the Caribbean it will be fall in Pennsylvania, and finding cute tropical-worthy attire may not be easy. Usually by early August, the stores are starting to stock their fall clothes, and I don’t want to be stuck without anything cute to wear while enjoying a week of paradise with my new hubby.

Yesterday I got quite an exciting email from one of my favorite stores, Anthropologie: they are now offering complimentary personal shopping at select stores! All you need to do is call to schedule an appointment, and your shopper will mix and match a handful of outfits and accessories in the sizes, colors, and styles that you like.

I don’t allow myself to go to Anthro too often because that would mean a serious negative balance in my bank account, but I do treat myself to some pretty Anthro pieces every so often, and I rarely feel like anything I have purchased there in the last few years has gone out of style. The honeymoon might be a nice excuse to splurge on a couple of nice items for my trousseau. And what better way to pamper myself than with a personal shopper to do the leg work for me! It may be free, but it will still feel like a treat :-)

Perhaps I’ll be taking home one (or two!) of these cute items:

Coquette top, $78Bachelor’s Buttons Tank, $88

Sheerwater halter, $88

Great Heights Bustier, $78

Mix-and-Mingle Tank, $58

Lush Arroyo Dress, $148

Blue Angel Dress, $168

Spotted Cat Bikini, $78-$108

Sunshade Flora Chemise, $58

Waxflower Falls Cover-Up, $98

Is anyone else planning their honeymoon wardrobe so far in advance?

lol…once again WB has been reading my mind…

just today in church while listenign to a rather lengthy series of announcements, my mind drifted to my minimoon wardrobe for the first time. it will be fall for us too, but we’ll be hitting the east coast, so i think my wardrobe will be mostly jeans and cute flirty tops. and a jacket of course.

I have the chemise in two different colors. I LOVE THEM! They are beautiful, comfortable and they have pockets! =)

Ugh. Anthropologie is EVIL. So many adorable pieces, but they are so expensive!!!! :-) And I get totally taken in like a schmuck.

But I’ve been planning for my honeymoon well in advance, because I’ve had it planned for so long. And honestly, it’s SO MUCH FUN to plan for outfits–it’s very much out of the montage from That Touch of Mink where Doris Day is at Bergdorf’s, planning her wardrobe for her trip around the world with Cary Grant. It’s been a lot of fun–it’s been a mix of high and low pieces, such as fun platform sandals from Old Navy (sadly no longer available) to a pretty skirt from Anthro that I wore a few times (to justify the price, I swear!). Plus, shopping for the lingerie for the trip has been an added treat for me after my MOH gifted me with a super-generous gift to a NYC lingerie boutique!

Love all of your picks–especially the bustier–but I must recommend J.Crew for swimwear, as they have an amazing selection to mix and match, and they have sales often, so it’s easy to get a new suit or two for a reasonable price. I also have their gauze beach dress from last year, and it’s seriously comfortable–I use it to go to my local beach, and I also use it to hang out in our no-A/C apartment because it’s so light and breezy.

And yay for promoting a Philly-based company! :-)

@elizabeth: I was all ready to respond to your J.Crew suggestion by saying that their swimwear isn’t all that accommodating for curvy bosoms such as mine, but then I proved myself wrong when I perused over to jcrew.com and found that they have a D-cup section! I’m totally buying this cute suit:

Now I just have to get rid of my pooch belly so I actually wear it in public :-)

@Miss Cupcake: Very nice, and very retro! J.Crew has become so good for “extended” sizes recently, from tall-sized pants to more accommodating swimwear!

And while I highly doubt that you have a “pooch” belly, I highly suggest the NYC Ballet Workout (both DVD 1 and 2) for an awesome total body workout–it makes you feel so good all over, especially in posture (which is highly useful as you prepare to pose for picture after picture at your wedding). I’ve been doing it myself with the intention that it (along with some Spanx!) will help me pose well for pictures during that day. It’s amazing how much it will kick your booty after one or two sessions!

@elizabeth: Ha, you’re very sweet, but believe me, it’s a pooch ;-)

I’m actually planning to work with a personal trainer for 8 weeks, starting soon….. it’s something I never thought I’d do, but a great deal was presented to me and I couldn’t resist! I’m buying bathing suits now for that extra motivation! But if something falls through, I think I’ll definitely look into the NYC Ballet Workout. I danced forever until I graduated from college, and I can’t afford expensive weekly classes but it would be fun to do ballet as a workout again!

@Miss Cupcake: Well, if you want something to add to your personal trainer sessions, get the DVDs–they’re 30 bucks for the set of two on Amazon, and they really do wonders for the core. And an awesome workout to work on with the PT is the push-up–working with someone who knows how to push themselves will only make you go futher than you ever could before, and it’s an AMAZING workout for a relatively short amount of time spent!

Haven’t thought about honeymoon outfits since the honeymoon will be six months or longer after the wedding (so over a year away!) but… I will say that I bought the green tube top you posted and it is amazing. Seriously, it is my pick-me-up on even the fugliest days. It’s not cheap but so worth it!

Am I the only one who can’t stomach any of the prices at Anthro? I don’t find their stuff any cuter (or better made, for that matter) than many other stores that are way better priced. Not trying to offend anyone who does shop there, I’ve just never understood why people go gaga over it…

@kandaceandjason: I definitely hear you and think that some things at Anthro are unnecessarily overpriced, but other pieces I do feel are made much better than items at other stores and overall I just find that the prints on many of their dresses and shirts are uniquely different from what other stores offer. After a while I get bored with other stores and often feel like Anthro has the refreshingly different looks that make my heart pitter-patter. I’m certainly not willing to pay $50 for a t-shirt, but I am willing to pay $100 for a unique and flattering skirt that I can wear for four years and still feel fabulous every time I put it on :-) My Old Navy skirts just don’t hold up like that!

Yes, I actually make a “Day to Day” chart and put in each top, bottom, shoes, accessories, purse, etc. Not only is it fun, it helps with packing! For vacations, I’ve made charts for friends that they can fill in. I love to draw/paint, so I even draw out each item with colored pencils for fun! Isn’t half the fun of an outfit picking it out ahead of time?
